The Tamil Nadu Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), established on 14 October 1957, is the state’s primary authority for coordinating and governing technical education. Headquartered in Guindy, Chennai, and operating under the Higher Education Department, DoTE oversees 464 polytechnics, along with several government engineering and hotel-management institutes. Its key functions include framing syllabi, regulating course standards, affiliating institutions, conducting diploma and technical exams (like GTE, COA), issuing certificates, and ensuring quality through inspections and AICTE-aligned norms Moreover, DoTE manages admission processes (first-year, lateral entry, part-time), scholarship schemes, curriculum reforms (including CBCS and industry-integrated training), and extensive initiatives in skill development and collaborations with industries.
