Some body says, if we could use just 3% of available waste land in India, India could install and generate 750GW to 900GW (750,000MW to 900,000 MW) capacity worth of solar energy based power plants, which is equal to 3.5 times of our present installed power plant capacities from all available sources, like coal, lignite, oil, gas, nuclear, and all renewable energy sources, including water falls.
But, the only issue is finding the energy storage capability to store and handling transmission & distribution process of such a huge power generation capacity.
There are a lot of process technology available for thermal storages like molten salt, water, liquids, stones, bricks, etc., but a very limited storage technology for electrical energy, except batteries & super capacitors, which are hither to high cost systems. ( A smoothening message is the cost of batteries and chemical storage system are fast reducing due to advanced manufacturing process efficiencies and the quantum leap). Yet, a longways to go. Perovskite material research is continuing on possibilities of using the same for energy storage systems. that mean a substantial reduction in energy storage costs could be expected.
The point is; more potential for Human Resources is awaiting in solar energy harvesting, power conversion, and energy storage sectors as well as on materials technology research & development sector.
Educated & qualified youths, Come and give a big hand in those most promising sectors to march towards a sustainable new world. Not in thousands, but in millions of hands can join together to take our world to newer heights.
