Superannuation of Staff from DPH & PM - 31 August 2026

Virtual meeting was held on to honour 25 staff members who completed their service during August 2026. The retiring staff, representing various cadres such as Village Health Nurses, Sector Health Nurses, Non-Medical Supervisors, Community Health Nurses, Hospital Workers, Ophthalmic Assistants, Health Inspectors, Assistants, Auxiliary Nursing Midwives, Steno Typists and Sweepers/Mazdoors, joined the programme from their respective DHO offices across the State through video conference. The DPH conveyed his appreciation for their dedicated years of service and valuable contributions to public health. He also extended his warm wishes for a happy, healthy and fulfilling retired life.

Training of Trainers on Maternal and Child Health - 28 August 2026

Training of Trainers (ToT) for District Training Team Medical Officers (DTTMOs) and District Maternal and Child Health Officers (DMCHOs) on Maternal and Child Health was conducted at the Directorate.
Dr. S. Aneesh Sekhar, IAS, Managing Director, NHM, the DPH, Dr. Sampath, Additional Director (PHC), Dr. R. Shanthi, Joint Director (MCH), Dr. Bharanidharan, Joint Director (Immunization), and Additional Directors and Joint Directors from NHM and the Department of Family Welfare provided coordinated guidance on strengthening maternal and child health services at the district and primary healthcare levels.
The training covered key components of maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health, with sessions on antenatal care, setting up antenatal clinics, mandatory investigations, PICME entry, haemorrhage in pregnancy, conducting normal deliveries at PHCs, gestational hypertension and postnatal care.
The child health component included IMR, U5MR, MPCDSR, NRP and SSBKS, along with integrated facility- and community-based child health programmes, strengthening service delivery and monitoring. Sessions also addressed antenatal, postnatal and postoperative care during field visits, Anaemia Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, contraception services at PHCs, Medical Methods of Abortion (MMA) at PHCs and adolescent health.
Further sessions focused on anaemia in pregnancy, strengthening MCH care at PHC and field level, and referral guidelines covering who, when, where and how to refer. An open-house discussion provided an opportunity for participants to clarify issues and discuss field-level implementation.
The ToT aimed to strengthen the technical capacity of district-level teams and facilitate effective dissemination of knowledge and practices to healthcare personnel at the field level, thereby supporting quality and integrated maternal and child health service delivery across Tamil Nadu.

District CRS Approach presentation at SKOCH Award Evaluation - 27 August 2026

The Directorate of Public Health and Preventive Medicine participated in the SKOCH Award Evaluation Presentation held online. The “District CRS Approach” initiative was shortlisted for evaluation by the SKOCH Award Jury, domain experts and peers.
The presentation on behalf of the DPH was delivered by Dr. Abishek, State Nosologist, highlighting the approach and its implementation at the district level. The presentation showcased the systematic approach adopted under the initiative and its contribution towards strengthening public health systems and service delivery. The evaluation provided an opportunity to present the initiative before the SKOCH Award panel and demonstrate its approach, implementation and outcomes.

Vendor Orientation Meeting on Thaai Maaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam - 25 August 2026

Meeting with vendors for the Thaai Maaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam was held at the Directorate, following finalisation of the tender by the Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation (TNMSC).
The meeting focused on the operational requirements for implementation of the scheme, particularly the specifications and requirements for the blister pack to be supplied along with the gold rings. The functioning of the inventory portal, including processes for inventory management and tracking, was also discussed with the vendors to ensure smooth and transparent supply and distribution.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Shanthi, Joint Director (MCH), along with Health Officers and Medical Officers, and provided an opportunity to clarify operational requirements with the selected vendors and facilitate preparedness for the rollout of the scheme.

State-Level Review on Dengue Control and Prevention - 24 August 2026

State-level review on Dengue Control and Prevention was held at the Secretariat under the leadership of Dr. K. G. Arunraj, Hon’ble Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare, and Dr. Darez Ahamed, IAS, Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department. Dr. Aneesh Sekhar, IAS, Managing Director, NHM Tamil Nadu, and the DPH also participated in the review. From the Directorate, Dr. Devaparthasarathy, Additional Director (Communicable Diseases), Dr. Bharanidharan, Joint Director (Immunization) and the Chief Entomologist attended the meeting. The meeting was attended by District Health Officers (DHOs), Community Health Officers (CHOs), Municipal Health Officers (MHOs), Deans of Government Medical Colleges and Joint Directors of Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services.
The review focused on dengue surveillance, prevention and control measures, with emphasis on strengthening district-level preparedness, early detection and management of cases, entomological surveillance and intensified vector-control activities. The participation of district, municipal and medical college health authorities supported coordinated action for effective dengue prevention and timely public health response across the State.

Inspection of Gold Storage Facility at IOG - 24 August 2026

An inspection of the designated locker facility at the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (IOG) was conducted as part of the preparatory activities for the Thaai Maaman Thanga Mothiram Thittam. The DPH, Dr. R. Shanthi, Joint Director (MCH), and the Medical Officer visited the facility to assess its suitability for secure storage of the gold rings under the scheme.
The Director, IOG, and hospital staff were present during the inspection. The visit focused on the arrangements for secure storage and handling of the gold rings, as part of ensuring appropriate safeguards before commencement of scheme implementation.

Regional Workshop on TB Mukt Panchayat Abhiyan – South Zone

18 – 19 August 2026

Regional workshop on TB Mukt Panchayat Abhiyan for the south zone was held on 18 and 19 August 2026 at Hotel Fortel, Egmore, Chennai, bringing together stakeholders to strengthen grassroots action towards TB elimination.
The workshop was attended by the DPH, Dr. S. Aneesh Sekhar, IAS, Mission Director, NHM; Dr. Asha, State TB Officer; and Mr. Pichandi, Joint Director, State Institute of Rural Development. DPH highlighted that tuberculosis continues to remain a public health challenge, underscoring the need for sustained and coordinated efforts towards its elimination. He emphasised that the workshop provided an opportunity to bring together various ideas and inputs from different stakeholders for further strengthening the programme and improving implementation. The workshop served as a platform for sharing experiences, ideas and best practices and strengthening convergence between health systems and Panchayati Raj Institutions towards achieving TB-free Panchayats.

Administrative Officers’ Review - 18 August 2026

The Administrative Officers’ Review was conducted on 18 August 2026 at the Directorate. The DPH chaired the review along with the Joint Director (Administration), with Administrative Officers and Office Superintendents from DHO offices participating through video conference. The review covered key administrative matters, including disciplinary action cases, pending court cases, grievance petitions, Mudhalvarin Mugavari petitions, staff strength and vacancies, transfer-related complaints, FRAS performance, pension proposals, retirement benefits, compassionate appointments, long-pending files, RTI applications and appeals, establishment and payroll matters, and e-Office performance. The DPH emphasised timely disposal of pending matters and strengthened monitoring and follow-up to ensure efficient and effective administrative functioning at the district level.
