Training of Trainers on Maternal and Child Health - 28 August 2026
Training of Trainers (ToT) for District Training Team Medical Officers (DTTMOs) and District Maternal and Child Health Officers (DMCHOs) on Maternal and Child Health was conducted at the Directorate.
Dr. S. Aneesh Sekhar, IAS, Managing Director, NHM, the DPH, Dr. Sampath, Additional Director (PHC), Dr. R. Shanthi, Joint Director (MCH), Dr. Bharanidharan, Joint Director (Immunization), and Additional Directors and Joint Directors from NHM and the Department of Family Welfare provided coordinated guidance on strengthening maternal and child health services at the district and primary healthcare levels.
The training covered key components of maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health, with sessions on antenatal care, setting up antenatal clinics, mandatory investigations, PICME entry, haemorrhage in pregnancy, conducting normal deliveries at PHCs, gestational hypertension and postnatal care.
The child health component included IMR, U5MR, MPCDSR, NRP and SSBKS, along with integrated facility- and community-based child health programmes, strengthening service delivery and monitoring. Sessions also addressed antenatal, postnatal and postoperative care during field visits, Anaemia Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, contraception services at PHCs, Medical Methods of Abortion (MMA) at PHCs and adolescent health.
Further sessions focused on anaemia in pregnancy, strengthening MCH care at PHC and field level, and referral guidelines covering who, when, where and how to refer. An open-house discussion provided an opportunity for participants to clarify issues and discuss field-level implementation.
The ToT aimed to strengthen the technical capacity of district-level teams and facilitate effective dissemination of knowledge and practices to healthcare personnel at the field level, thereby supporting quality and integrated maternal and child health service delivery across Tamil Nadu.
