Simplifying Environmental Compliance for White Category Industries

Tamil Nadu has expanded the White Category list from 37 to 609 industries, exempting eligible industries from obtaining Consent to Establish (CTE) and Consent to Operate (CTO), subject to applicable provisions.

Taking this reform further, TNPCB has introduced a dedicated digital interface for White Category industries, enabling a simple online self-declaration and acknowledgement process.

A simpler process, reduced compliance burden and a more seamless experience for businesses, strengthening Ease of Doing Business in Tamil Nadu.

Richu George Philip and Gautham Kumar Jayakumar from Guidance Tamil Nadu participated in the AI GCC Executive Roundtable in Chennai, where Guidance was the State Partner for AIGCC ’26, themed “The AI Native GCC – From Adoption to Accountability.”

The team shared perspectives on Tamil Nadu’s AI ecosystem, DeepTech capabilities and strong GCC talent base, highlighting the State’s ability to support organisations in building AI-led functions, engineering centres and global innovation capabilities. They also spoke about the growing confidence among new GCC entrants and the rapid expansion of GCCs across Tamil Nadu.

The roundtable brought together senior leaders from leading global enterprises and technology organisations, with discussions focused on how GCCs can create greater value for global operations while building enterprise-ready AI skills, innovation capabilities and future-ready talent.

With a deep pool of engineering and technology talent, strong industry-academia linkages and an expanding DeepTech ecosystem, Tamil Nadu is well positioned to support the next phase of AI-led GCC growth.

Tamil Nadu has streamlined environmental compliance for industries through a clear, category-based consent framework.

Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board's environmental consent framework provides Consent to Operate (CTO) and Renewal of Consent (RCO) for extended validity periods upon advance payment of the applicable consent fee. The validity extends to 5 years for Red category industries, 10 years for Orange category industries, and 14 years for Green category industries.

This extended validity approach gives industries greater regulatory clarity and supports long-term business planning in Tamil Nadu.

A major milestone for indigenous technology in Tamil Nadu!

Chennai-based fabless semiconductor innovator Aheesa™ Digital Innovations Private Limited is taking India’s chip-design capabilities forward.

Supported by the DLI Scheme and TNIFMC, Aheesa’s flagship broadband chip VIHAAN, built using the indigenous VEGA microprocessor, has achieved first-pass silicon success and is progressing towards production.

With homegrown networking chips, a router operating system and OEM platforms, Aheesa is strengthening Chennai’s position as a hub for deep-tech and semiconductor innovation.

At the VETTRI Tamil Nadu Investment Conclave 2026, Aheesa signed an MoU to invest ₹250 crore and create 300 high-tech R&D jobs in Tamil Nadu, in the presence of the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru C. Joseph Vijay.

This investment adds further momentum to Tamil Nadu’s growing deep-tech ecosystem, supporting homegrown innovation, advanced R&D and globally competitive technology from the State.

Tamil Nadu Leads in ECMS 5th Tranche

Tamil Nadu continues to strengthen its position as a leading electronics manufacturing hub, with 7 projects in the 5th tranche of ECMS.

These projects account for 23% of applications, around 20% of employment and around 11% of investment announced in this tranche.

Tamil Nadu’s strength is also reflected in the progress of projects approved under earlier ECMS tranches. Tata Electronics is already operational, while Kaynes Technology India Limited, Motherson Group, Yuzhan and other projects are progressing towards operations, demonstrating the State’s ability to translate approvals into manufacturing capacity on the ground.

We remain committed to grounding every approved investment in Tamil Nadu and bringing in even more.

Tamil Nadu is also working towards building a more comprehensive electronics components ecosystem, bringing companies across component sub-sectors into the State’s supply chain and enabling greater localisation.
