An Open Letter to Panjab University, Chandigarh Authorities-
"Black day for Panjab University students? I'd say it is rather a black day for Panjab University authorities. The institution that is given the responsibility to inculcate knowledge in the young minds of the country has itself forgotten Humanity that should be the first lesson they are supposed to teach. You are treating students like anti-nationals, completely insulting the Constitution and taking away our right to raise our voice and peacefully protesting against the unfair steps being taken by you. I am now starting to understand my political science lessons where I read 'Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely'. But I didn't know that you would give us a live example of what we learn in class in such a inhuman way by beating up my brothers, sisters and friends.
Let's just even consider your way. Bring on the water cannons. Bring on the tear gas bombs. Throw stones at us. Abuse us and beat us with sticks. And when you are done, you'll still see us emerging from the other end. Stronger and fierce. How many voices can you silence? How long will you bring on the torture that students have faced? How much more can you stoop down than where you have gone?
And the police. The body who is entrusted with the responsibility of safety, who we are supposed to trust, who are supposed to protect the students, behaved like a freaking army of mad men.
Fee hike is not the only issue now. It is about principles, the unfair rules, the inhuman actions taken and the innocent students injured. The institution that is supposed to function on Gandhi's principles of non-violence has forgotten the roots from where we emerge. I, who was a proud student of the university, now rethinks my decision to be gaining education here. But proud I still am, but not of the university anymore. I am rather proud of the students who got together. I have never been in support of the way politics is practiced in the university but today I applaud the way all political parties got together to fight for the students.
We are one big family. We cannot forget humanity and consideration for others the way you have. But we shall raise our voice every time the ones in power try to misuse the privileges they have been given along with a defined set of responsibilities. We shall fight for what is right. We shall fight for our future and the future of the country, which is us. And you can try us but I'd warn you, your water cannons and tear gas is too weak an option for you to fight us. Try something more challenging, may be some sensibility and courage to talk to us in the open?"
