A Self-Defence mechanism training programme for female students and faculties of St. Xavier’s College, Burdwan was Organised by X-EVE, Women’s Cell on 19th November, 2022 from 2:30 pm at the College lawn.

The Chief Guest and trainer of the session was Mr. Swapan Sardar, 5th Dan Black belt Karate, West Bengal Police, Purba Barddhaman who came to the campus along with his 4 students of Karate Association of India. They assisted him to demonstrate various techniques of defence in different situations like hand or hair gripping etc.

Overall, the session was really interesting as such an event like Self-defence mechanisms training was organised for the first time in the history of SXC-B and more educational institutions must inculcate such programme, keeping in mind with the rising number of crimes against women.

X-EVE believes that not only free mobility of mind is required but also free mobility of body of women in Public as well as Private sphere is necessary to create an Utopian Society.
One cannot be an expert in one day but one must start and bring change by taking charge of small steps and X-EVE was successful in that. X-EVE believes that not all but few girls definitely will be inspired, who will inspire other girls and this cycle will go on. This is how X-EVE is an Organisation “OF THE WOMEN, BY THE WOMEN, FOR THE MANKIND".

The Film Screening on “Alert-Condition Red” was made possible by the collaborative effort of the X-EVE Organization and the Department of English on 18th November, 2022 in the Administrative Seminar Hall at St. Xavier’s College, Burdwan. We extend our gratitude to our resource person for the session, a very well-known Indian Filmmaker, Xahid Khan who joined us through the Google Meet platform and the Department of English for collaborating with us.

The whole session was very much impactful and engaging as students equally participated in the discussion of Mentrual taboo and myth around a natural process, and in return gained informative and logical insights.

X-EVE will come up with more events like this and keep the dialogue rolling.

We live in a society where a naturally occurring biological process like Menstruation is still seen as a taboo and a miserable topic to talk about openly. We need to take charge and break this vicious cycle of misery and myth which tremendously affect the emotional state, mentality, lifestyle and most importantly the health of females across time and space.

Thus, X-Eve Women’s Cell in collaboration with the English Department of SXC-B presents, screening of the film “Alert – Condition: Red” directed by Indian film maker, Xahid Khan in order to spread knowledge and awareness about menstruation. It is our Social responsibility as students of St. Xavier’s to use our privilege to help the people around us by making them aware and by breaking the taboo.

X-EVE is thrilled and excited to collaborate with the English Department and have Xahid Khan to talk about such an important matter.

About the Resource person:
Born in Assam, Xahid Khan is an Indian Filmmaker widely known for his short film, Alert – Condition: Red, Semi-finalist in Academy Awards (OSCAR) Qualifying Film Festival “Best of India Short Film Festival, Los Angles”. For Alert Condition: Red he got international recognition and won many awards including Best Films and Best Director awards. His film “Mistake” which also has its round into many International, National as Well Regional Film Festival including Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival and won the best film awards in Emirates Short Film Festival ’19 in Dubai. His 5th Film “Evening Gush” a suspense drama was also awarded in few festivals. He was nominated for North East India’s Person of The Year in the year 2018 and made his name in the list of North- East Top 500 influential people. He got the India Star Icon Award in 2019.
