World Tourism Awards 2026
IITTM Bhubaneswar

The annual World Tourism Awards launched by IITTM Bhubaneswar provide an opportunity to showcase and promote, encourage and reward tourism excellence. It also recognizes outstanding contributions in different areas to community and society. Contributions emphasize the awardee's concern for the common good, willingness to give time and comfort, and the ability to draw together varied resources to solve problems, rather than only technical competence.

Extremely privileged to congratulate the awardee in the Field of Tourism for 2026:

Smt. Anshu Pragyan Das
DFO, Hirakud Wildlife Division
Dept. of Forest, Environment & Climate Change
Govt. of Odisha
Heartiest Congratulations!

Smt. Anshu Pragyan Das has been spearheading a progressive model of community-led conservation and responsible ecotourism, particularly in Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary. Her initiatives have brought local communities into the heart of conservation by creating livelihoods as nature guides, safari drivers, boat operators and hospitality providers, while placing a strong emphasis on women’s participation and empowerment. Initiatives such as the community-managed homestays at Dhodrokusum, the women’s anti-poaching squad, zero-plastic practices, nature trails, birding and experiential tourism have strengthened both conservation and visitor engagement. Her approach beautifully demonstrates how wildlife protection, sustainable tourism and community livelihoods can work together, making Debrigarh an inspiring model for responsible ecotourism in Odisha.

The awards ceremony will be organized on 25th September 2026 at Indian Institute of Tourism & Travel Management Bhubaneswar campus.

🌏 FAMILIARIZATION TOUR | PURI–KONARK

IITTM, Bhubaneswar successfully organized a One-Day Familiarization Tour to Puri & Konark on 2 September 2026 for the MBA (2026–28) and BBA (2026–29) batches, providing students with an opportunity to gain practical exposure to Odisha’s rich tourism, cultural and heritage landscape.
The tour commenced with a visit to the iconic Puri Beach, where students experienced one of Odisha’s most prominent coastal tourism destinations and gained insights into the significance of destination management and tourist experiences.
The students then proceeded to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Konark Sun Temple, one of India’s finest examples of Kalinga architecture and an important cultural tourism attraction.
A specialized guided tour and heritage interpretation session was organized at Konark, enabling students to understand the historical, architectural and cultural significance of the monument. Through the guided interpretation, students were introduced to the temple’s remarkable iconographic features, intricate stone carvings, architectural elements, symbolism and storytelling traditions associated with the monument.
The visit provided the students with valuable experiential learning beyond the classroom, allowing them to observe firsthand how professional guiding, heritage interpretation and destination presentation contribute to meaningful tourist experiences.
Such familiarization tours form an important part of tourism education by bridging the gap between academic learning and field-level exposure, while encouraging students to appreciate, interpret and responsibly promote India’s diverse tourism resources.
Learning. Exploring. Interpreting. Experiencing Tourism Beyond the Classroom.
