Have you ever lived in a mud hut?

From a single mighty Mahua tree to a hamlet of mud homes - our journey with natural building has been quite the adventure!

The first chapter of our mud houses began with our village neighbors. They graciously shared their knowledge, helping us build our initial four huts at Sehatvan. But that was just the beginning. As more people joined our forest family, our mud architecture kept evolving - each new pair of hands bringing fresh energy and ideas to our ever-growing space.

Here’s the thing about mud houses - they’re alive, breathing with the seasons, asking for care and attention. Every monsoon taught us something new. The first three years were... let’s say, humbling! But we kept learning, experimenting, and redesigning. Now we proudly have huts that have weathered three monsoons with minimal damage - quite an achievement for a bunch of enthusiastic amateur builders learning on the job!

Each renovation has been a community celebration, a chance to reimagine and reshape our forest home. In the last image, you’re looking at Semal - our most recently transformed space, showing off its fresh new look from last month’s makeover.

The two artistes you see in the first slide are Dari and Raphi, one of the coolest and most talented couples we’ve hosted at Moodforest 🌳 You might see more of them on our page in the upcoming posts ❤️

In the beginning, our living room was a wandering concept. Some days we’d eat in the kitchen, other times under a tree when the weather was kind. One summer, we even created an entire outdoor space. But eventually, we found our permanent solution – this cute living room that became the heart of Moodforest.

This was basically Vipin’s playground – and calling it an ‘art project’ might be the most accurate description. Imagine creating an entire space without a single measuring tape, just pure instinct and a whole lot of creative madness. That’s how our chief architect rolls. If these walls could talk, they’d tell stories of endless chit-chats, post dinner card games, and meals that turned into memories. And here’s the fun part: almost everyone who’s visited has left a little piece of themselves here. Lipai – the traditional floor making technique – in this room is a communal ritual during our camps.

We hosted Shwetha and Nikhil, who visited us last December with their adorable daughter and Shwetha ended up painting these beautiful kolam designs which are still here, dancing on our walls!

Bryan Johnson Meets India

Two paths to longevity: The factory and the forest.

The factory way is to pump ourselves with supplements, nutraceuticals, figure out the recipe for ideal bodily fluids and have a team of experts run them or soon an AI.

The next step in the story would be some nano-robots which will clean up our arterial clogs and stimulate our brain cells. It’s a story of controlling nature, as Charles Eisenstein calls it.

The second way is the way of the forest:

A forest really depends on its soil, water, and sun. The DNA for the fruits is already there; what is required is to support a nurturing soil and interconnection of species to make the forest thrive well.

Plus, the forest depends on creating a nurturing community for ‘others’ to thrive.

Our body has immense potential to detox, repair, and rejuvenate itself. If we can reproduce another human being, we can surely repair some of our own body. For eg: Fasting — itself is a great longevity booster.

Bryan seems to be promoting the factory way with his blueprint, though I might be wrong.

In longevity circles, the visit is abuzz (article in comments).

India’s impact is always philosophical. Every time someone comes from the West to India, they undergo change and leave some new trends here.
