Deputy Mayor Qazi brings with him a strong record of public service and community leadership. He was elected to the Marlboro Township Council in 2021, becoming one of the first Indian Americans to serve in the township’s governing body. His election was part of a historic shift in local leadership, ending nearly two decades of single-party control and signaling renewed civic engagement among residents.
Following his swearing-in in January 2022, Qazi earned the confidence of his colleagues and was unanimously elected Council President, reflecting bipartisan respect for his leadership style, work ethic, and commitment to responsible governance.

Before entering U.S. local politics, Qazi was actively engaged in public affairs, including serving as *President of the Indian National Overseas Congress (I) in 2014*. His long-standing interest in governance and community service has continued in the United States through civic engagement and leadership within the Indian American community.
Deputy Mayor Qazi credited Mayor Jonathan Hornik for his leadership and vision, noting that his guidance has helped strengthen municipal services, maintain Marlboro’s AAA bond rating, and preserve the township’s standing as one of New Jersey’s premier communities.
