Baramulla, June 19: Continuing its vibrant calendar of sporting activities, the Department of Youth Services & Sports (DYSS) Baramulla today commenced the Inter-Zonal District Level Kho-Kho Championship for Under-17 Girls at the picturesque HS Khawaja Bagh Ground, Baramulla.

The championship has attracted an impressive participation of 18 zonal teams comprising 216 talented girl athletes representing different educational zones of the district. The tournament is being conducted in a league format, providing every participating team ample opportunity to showcase its skills, teamwork, agility, and sportsmanship.

On the opening day, all participating teams played multiple league matches, with each team scheduled to compete in four matches. The championship witnessed thrilling encounters and remarkable performances from the young athletes, reflecting the growing popularity and competitive standards of Kho-Kho across the district.

The tournament aims to identify and nurture emerging sporting talent while promoting physical fitness, discipline, teamwork, and a healthy competitive spirit among students. The championship will continue tomorrow, where the remaining league fixtures and subsequent rounds will determine the top-performing teams.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, DYSSO Baramulla, Mushtaq Ahmad Pampori, lauded the enthusiastic participation of the young athletes and appreciated the efforts of field officials, technical staff, and zonal contingents for ensuring the smooth conduct of the competition. Baramulla, June 17: In a remarkable display of youth engagement and social responsibility, multiple educational zones of District Baramulla including Dangerpora, Singpora Pattan, Tangmarg, Kunzer, Baramulla, Singpora Kalan, Dangiwacha, Wagoora, Pattan, Chandanwari, and Boniyar organized Anti-Drug Awareness Rallies and Run for a Drug-Free Society programmes under the banner of Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan.

The awareness campaigns witnessed the enthusiastic participation of thousands of students, both boys and girls, who rallied together to spread the message of a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Participants carried placards, raised awareness slogans, and pledged to stay away from substance abuse while motivating others to do the same. The events aimed at educating young minds about the harmful consequences of drug addiction and promoting a culture of fitness, discipline, and positive social values.

Meanwhile, the sporting calendar remained equally vibrant as YSS Zone Dangiwacha conducted Inter-School Zonal Level Handball Trials for Under-14 and Under-17 Boys at G.K. Khan Ground. The trials witnessed the participation of 35 players in the Under-14 category and 28 players in the Under-17 category, showcasing impressive talent and competitive spirit.

Similarly, YSS Zone Dangerpora successfully conducted Handball Boys Trials at PM Shri School Duroo, where nearly 170 players from various schools of the zone participated with great enthusiasm and determination. The trials served as an important platform for identifying promising athletes who will represent their respective zones in forthcoming district-level competitions.

The Department of Youth Services and Sports Baramulla commended the efforts of all participating zones for successfully combining social awareness initiatives with sports development activities, thereby contributing to the holistic growth of students and strengthening the vision of a healthy, empowered, and drug-free society. Baramulla, June 16: The Inter-Zonal District Level (IZDL) Kho-Kho Championship for Under-14 Girls concluded on a high note at the HS Ground Khawaja Bagh, with YSS Zone Dangiwacha emerging as the champions after a spirited performance against YSS Zone Dangerpora in the grand finale. The championship was organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) Baramulla and witnessed enthusiastic participation from 204 young athletes representing 17 educational zones of the district.

The tournament showcased exceptional talent, sportsmanship, and competitive spirit among the budding girls' players. After a series of exciting league and knockout matches, four teams secured their places in the semifinals.

In the first semifinal, YSS Zone Dangerpora defeated YSS Zone Wagoora to book a place in the final. The second semifinal witnessed a thrilling contest between YSS Zone Dangiwacha and YSS Zone Sopore, where Dangiwacha emerged victorious to advance to the championship clash.

The final match between Zone Dangerpora and Zone Dangiwacha lived up to expectations, with both teams displaying remarkable skill and determination. However, Zone Dangiwacha maintained its dominance and eventually emerged victorious to lift the coveted Under-14 Girls Inter-Zonal District Level Kho-Kho Championship trophy.

The winner and runner-up teams were felicitated with trophies by the Headmistress, HS Khawaja Bagh, who graced the occasion as the chief guest and congratulated the participants for their outstanding performances.

Speaking on the occasion, the Convener of the Championship appreciated the efforts of all technical officials, field staff, and organizing members for ensuring the smooth and successful conduct of the tournament. He also congratulated both the winner and runner-up teams and encouraged the young athletes to continue striving for excellence in sports.

Meanwhile, the excitement is set to continue as the Inter-Zonal District Level Under-17 Girls Kho-Kho Championship will commence tomorrow at the same venue, bringing together the district's finest young talent for another thrilling sporting spectacle. Baramulla, June 15: Following the successful culmination of the Inter-Zonal District Level Under-14 Boys Kho-Kho Competition, the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) Baramulla today kick-started the much-awaited Inter-Zonal District Level Under-14 Girls Kho-Kho Championship at HS Ground Khawaja Bagh, Baramulla.

The championship was formally inaugurated by DYSSO Baramulla, Mushtaq Ahmad Pampori, in the presence of officials, technical staff, field functionaries and participating teams from across the district.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, DYSSO Baramulla Mushtaq Ahmad Pampori highlighted the importance of sports in shaping the character, confidence and leadership qualities of young girls. He lauded the growing participation of girls in sports and emphasized that such competitions provide a vital platform for nurturing talent, promoting fitness, and fostering sportsmanship among the youth. He encouraged all participants to play with dedication, discipline and team spirit while making the most of the opportunities provided by the department.

A total of 18 zonal teams comprising 216 girls athletes are participating in the championship. The tournament is being conducted in a league-cum-knockout format, ensuring that each participating team gets the opportunity to play a minimum of four matches.

The opening day's fixtures witnessed exciting contests across two courts.

- Zone Rohama defeated Zone Chandoosa.
- Zone Nehalpora defeated Zone Singpora Kalan.
- Zone Kunzer defeated Zone Chandanwari.
- Zone Sopore defeated Zone Chandanwari.

- Zone Dangiwacha defeated Zone Tangmarg.
- Zone Dangerpora defeated Zone Baramulla.
- Zone Pattan defeated Zone Uri.
- Zone Wagoora defeated Zone Fatehgarh.

The opening day showcased remarkable enthusiasm, skill and competitive spirit among the participating girls, reflecting the growing popularity of Kho-Kho and sports culture across the district.
