In January, our Bhoomi farmers' centre in Tiruvannamalai hosted a workshop on cattle care by Prof. Punniamurthy, focusing on ethno medicine. He shared how common illnesses in livestock can be treated using simple, low-cost herbal remedies rooted in traditional wisdom. He also highlighted the need to move towards antibiotic-free livestock care, as usage of antibiotics often leads to residues in milk and meat, impacting human health. The workshop, offered free of cost for local farmers, reflected his deep commitment to community and indigenous knowledge.

Soon after, we heard that Prof. Punniamurthy had been awarded the Padma Shri (2026)—news that brought us immense joy and felt truly well-deserved.

Mud on hands and curiosity in abundance.

Children from Tatva School, Chennai immersed in a 4-day residential experiential program, at Bhoomi Farmers Centre, Tiruvannamalai.

From gathering paddy saplings for transplantation to conversations with Yoganathan & Vijayalakshmi (Bhoomi team) on the role of insects: farmers' friend or foe?, soil health, and transplantation practices...the learning was straight from the land and its caretakers.
