What happens when Fudge simply refuses to budge?

Join us for a read-aloud of FUDGE WON’T BUDGE with author Riddhi Maniar Doda, and follow Ira and Fudge through a very stubborn morning. After the story, we’ll make our own little puppets inspired by the book, so children can take a bit of Fudge home too.

This session is for children aged 3 to 6, on Saturday, 13 June, at 11:00 AM at Champaca Bookstore, Indiranagar.

At Champaca, we’ve been wondering: what values do we celebrate when we think of words like nature, ecology, and environment in the life of letters? We believe literature is at its best when a writer’s identity is rooted into the grammar of their stories.
This pride month, we’d like to make these connections more fulfilling by introducing you to q***r writers whose stories about nature, animals and the environment reflect their own lived experiences and realities.
From stories that reshape how we view creative stillness in the wild, to narratives that intertwine literary biography and ecology, these authors complicate some familiar literary boundaries while they celebrate the stories of their ecologies.

H is for Hawk by Helen Macdonald
Blending memoir and nature writing, Helen Macdonald’s H is for Hawk is a deeply profound meditation on how Helen decides to fulfill their lifelong passion for raising a hawk upon the passing of their father.
To The River by Olivia Laing
Join Olivia Laing as they chronicle their midsummer walk along the Ouse—where Virginia Woolf tragically drowned—weaving an anti-memoir of Virginia Woolf’s writing, as they situate the historical spectres and cultural history that reside along the river’s marshy banks.

Under the Sea Wind by Rachel Carson
Rachel Carson’s Under the Sea Wind is a book that celebrates—in her vivid prose—the indigenous ecology of a black skimmer, a mackerel, and an eel. The rhythm of her triptych mimics the tidal rhythms that dictate these animal lives by the water.

Upstream by Mary Oliver
Mary Oliver’s collection of essays is a reflection of ecology amidst the craft of writing poetry.

As Susan Mitchell, the American poet says: ‘The world is wily, and doesn’t want to be caught.’

Perception is layered and simultaneous, and to ground your attention towards the smallest dot and T is becoming an increasingly difficult process in the age of the attention economy.

Don’t worry for your sensorium—we have exciting news! As this 13th June, we’re conducting an offering to your attention.

To ground yourselves as a blade of grass, to know:how it is to be in a prolonged state of spare time, join Gouache artist and workshop facilitator Ragha in an intimate image making session.

Where participants will fittle, tinker and scatter between paintings and the poetry of Walt Whitman, Mary Oliver and Ruskin Bond, as they respond to the quiet parts of their inner being; scattering Guaoche—rather than a technical know-how, this workshop will encourage instinctive mark making, color exploration and emotional response(s) through the medium of Gouache.

Best Sellers from the month of May

Have you read any of our bestsellers yet? Let us know how you enjoyed them.

Available at both our online and offline stores.

Trading comfort for adventure, Shivya Nath chronicles her journey across the planet’s remotest corners—from the Kaluts desert in Iran, to the Cocodrilo coral reefs of Cuba—ROOTLESS AND RESTLESS, is an endearing account of a slow travel-hunt, for stories, traditions and meaning in the age of social media and climate change.

Shape-shifting construction workers, a nurse stitching together bodies fallen from unfinished skyscrapers and other nightmarishly Kafkaesquean settings populate Deepak Unnikrishnan’s stunning debut, TEMPORARY PEOPLE. Narrated across 27 chapters, this novel of ideas foretells the surreal reality of Malayali guest-workers in the UAE like no other.

THE GOOD REPORTER: A MEMOIR OF JOURNALISM IN THE 21st CENTURY complicates the boundary between the objective journalist and the deeply human observer. Written by Disha Mullick and the collective team behind Khabar Lahariya, this striking anti-memoir turns the camera inward on the reporters who brave India’s most volatile rural beats. Navigating the harrowing aftermath of a stone quarry tragedy, a reporter’s professional presence fractures, unearthing buried personal trauma and profound grief. Moving beyond traditional narratives of journalistic triumph over hardship, this book is a literary exploration of what happens when the pursuit of truth demands exposing your own hidden scars.

DHOOP ISSUE 4 explores hyper-locality through food—its local commons, cultures, and discourse. Blending photo essays, micro-histories, and personal narratives, this issue offers an intimate look at the mini-eateries, plating aesthetics, and the laborious ingredient lifecycles that define the registers of local cuisines, recipes and taste across Manipur, Kerala, Karnataka and several other places.

Sarnath Banerjee’s sixth graphic novel ABSOLUTE JAFAR set across Delhi, Karachi and Berlin follows Brigu Sen and his family through immigration, bureaucracy and the anxieties of everyday life. Blending memoir, reportage and fiction, the book draws on folk mytholog

Sometimes a poem helps you notice things differently.

This reading comes from The Universe in Verse, a book that brings together poems and stories of scientific discovery, showing how both are ways of paying attention to the world.

If poetry feels unfamiliar, this is a good place to begin.

And if you’re looking for a quiet corner to spend time with a poem, you’ll find one at Champaca. Stop by the bookstore, browse a few pages, and discover a poem that stays with you.
