The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) was founded in 1950 by Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, independent India’s first Education Minister. Its objectives are to actively participate in the formulation and implementation of policies and programmes pertaining to India’s external cultural relations; to foster and strengthen cultural relations and mutual understanding between India and other countries; to promote cultural exchanges with other countries and people; and to develop relations with nations.
The Regional Office in Bangalore organizes a cultural programme every Friday evening known as EFCEP (Every Friday Cultural Evening Programme). EFCEP is conducted to promote young, budding, talented artists and give them a platform to showcase their talent. This programme has been running its course for 35 successful years in collaboration with the State Government and an NGO.
Along with EFCEP, the Regional Office in Bangalore organizes a programme on the second Saturday of every month in which selected senior artists give sterling performances. This programme is hosted in collaboration with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, NGMA and other stake holders, under the Council's 'Horizon' series. The purpose of this programme is to give an opportunity to the region-based artists who are selected by ICCR, who were not able to attend international events due to sponsorship issues.
Both these programmes have received a lot of praise, appreciation and accolades.
