Observing May Day as
BLACK DAY
On the historic occasion of May Day (International Workers’ Day), observed across the world to commemorate the struggles and sacrifices of the working class for dignity, rights, and social justice, Hind Mazdoor Kisan Panchayat (HMKP) strongly opine that all the Trade unions in the country should observe the May day as a Black Day this year.
May Day, born out of the historic struggle of workers in Chicago in 1886 for the eight-hour workday, symbolizes unity, resistance, and the hard-won rights of labour.
However, the present policies of the Narendra modi -Amit shaw Government have, in the view of HMKP, undermined these very principles by diluting labour protections through the implementation of the four Labour Codes, weakening trade union rights,encouraging contractualisation, and favouring corporate interests over workers’ welfare.
By observing May Day as a Black Day, HMKP seeks to register its strong protest against:
* The erosion of statutory labour rights under the new Labour Codes.
* Growing job insecurity, contractual employment, and unemployment.
* Attacks on collective bargaining and trade union freedoms,
* Privatization and disinvestment of public sector undertakings,
* Anti-worker, anti-farmer, and pro-corporate policy directions.
This symbolic protest is intended to remind society that the spirit of May Day is being compromised and that the struggle for workers’ rights is far from over.
HMKP calls upon workers, farmers, and all democratic forces to unite and reaffirm their commitment to defend labour rights, social justice, and constitutional values.
May Day is not merely a celebration, but a day of renewed resolve to continue the struggle for justice.
