Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) was established in 1987 as an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Culture, as a centre for research, academic pursuit and dissemination in the field of the arts. The Arts' encompass a wide range of subjects - from archaeology and anthropology to the visual and performing arts, enveloping them in a complementary and non-demarcated vision.

In its functioning, the IGNCA has met its mandate and continues to work in this direction. The Southern Regional Centre was established in 2001 at Bangalore. This was primarily with a view to expand research activities in South India. The foundation of SRC building on ten-acre land provided by the authorities of the Bangalore University was laid and the Bhoomi Pooja took place on Oct. 15, 2002. The Southern Regional centre is a nodal centre for study, research and dissemination of the arts and culture, with particular focus on South India.

A year-long part-time PG Diploma, the course introduces students to different Indian scripts such as Brahmi, Grantha, Tigalari, Modi, Kannada, Marathi Modi, Nandinagari & Old-Devanagari.

Offered in flexible weekend only modules, the course also entails a glimpse into the socio-political history of script development, book-culture and knowledge production in ancient India.

Interest specific research opportunities are also open towards the end of the course.

Recognized by Bangalore University, the course is open to both students, professionals & learners/scholars of dance, music, history, archaeology, paleography and others.

No prior exposure to scripts or Sanskrit is needed to enroll. Graduates of ANY discipline can apply.

Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Regional Centre Bengaluru announces the admission call for its second batch of Part-time PG Diploma in Manuscriptology & Palaeography.

Recognized by Bangalore University, the year-long course will introduce students to ancient Indian scripts such as Grantha, Brahmi, Tigalari, Modi, Nagari and Kannada.

Classes will be available in weekend-only modules available online owing to the pandemic-related risks.

Research Scholars, practitioners of art, culture, history, archaeology, & law who are interested in ancient scripts are invited to join the course.
