CPRI CPRI is an Autonomous Body under Ministry of Power, Government of India engaged in Testing & Certification , Research, Third Party Inspection services etc

CPRI is the power house of the Indian electrical industry. Set up in 1960 by the Government of India, it functions as a centre for applied research in electrical power engineering assisting the electrical industry in product development and quality assurance. CPRI also serves as an independent authority for testing and certification of power equipment. CPRI's governing body includes eminent professionals from industries & utilities, prestigious academic and research institutions & the government. It employs over 300 highly qualified and experienced engineers & scientists besides other supporting staff.

The Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), in association with the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), successfully organized the R&D Conclave on “Hydro Power and Pumped Storage Technologies (HPPST 2026)” on 15 June 2026 at India International Centre, New Delhi inaugurated by Shri Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson, CEA, and Dr.J.Sreedevi, Director General, CPRI and attended by 140 delegates from 85 organisations.
During the inaugural session, the compendium titled “R&D Bird’s Eye View Report on Research in the Indian Hydro Power Sector”, was released. Technical sessions on R&D Thrust Areas, Innovative Outcomes of R&D projects, Industry–Academia Interaction with special focus on Pumped storage technologies were conducted.
The event concluded with an action plan for advancing hydro power and pumped storage technologies in India.
