In 2019, about 900 companies in Bavaria generated a total turnover of approx EUR 54.4 billion.
Mechanical and plant engineering is the core of the German capital goods industry and is also one of the most important branches of industry in Bavaria.
Bavaria’s mechanical engineering sector has its focus on drive technology, general ventilation technology, power systems as well as pumps and compressors. With over 236,800 employees approx. 18% employment volume of all Bavarian industrial jobs

has meanwhile taken on a crucial role in mechanical engineering and will continue to strongly shape the industry. The integration of (AI) and offers many new opportunities, which will further advance mechanical engineering with considerable growth potential.

Due to its strong international competitive position, mechanical engineering is a very export-oriented industry. 65.3% of Bavarian industry sales in 2019 were generated abroad.

The favourable conditions of the aerospace sector in Bavaria form an ideal starting point for industry players.
The Bavarian Aviation Strategy 2030 was recently developed with the aim of maintaining and further expanding the leading position of the State in the global competition between aerospace locations.
The focus is on the construction of aircraft, propulsion systems, helicopters and spacecraft. In addition, satellite navigation represents another core area.
The Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs is also supporting the establishment of the “ Ludwig Bölkow Campus GmbH Aerospace & Security ”, which is to become an international hub for trend-setting innovation, new approaches and practical training in the field of aerospace. A diversified research infrastructure offers the industrial aerospace industry in Bavaria excellent framework conditions.

1. Approximately 30,000 Indians live in Bavaria of which 11,000 Indians live in Munich city. Almost 30% of blue cardholders in Germany are Indians, by far the largest group.
2. Trade between India and Bavaria amounts to 3 billion euros. More than 100 large Indian companies have a presence in Europe through their office in Bavaria.
3. The state of Karnataka has an MoU with the State of Bavaria to promote trade and commerce between each other. The state of Bavaria has its Indian office in Bangalore since 2001
4. There is an Indian Consulate General office in Munich.
5. There are 15 direct flights from Munich to Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore

This year, India and Germany marked the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The two countries are commemorating the anniversary with a number of events that are planned to be held in India and Germany through 2021-2022.

As part of these celebrations, both the Department of Posts (DOP), Govt of India and the Postage Stamp Division, German Federal Ministry of Finance will issue commemorative stamps. The Indian stamp has been designed by Ms. Gulistan and the German stamp has been designed by Matthias Wittig.

The Indian stamp was released by Shri Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Foreign Secretary with Shri Vineet Pandey, Secretary, Posts and Mr. Walter J. Lindner, German Ambassador to India on June 10, 2021.
