Motor Vehicles Department Conducts Enforcement Drive to Ensure Safety of School Buses in Bandipora

Bandipora, April 13: On the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, the Motor Vehicles Department today conducted a comprehensive enforcement and inspection drive across the district to ensure safety, compliance and roadworthiness of school buses.

During the drive, a total of 47 school buses belonging to various educational institutions were thoroughly inspected at multiple locations across Bandipora.

The inspection focused on key parameters concerning student safety and legal compliance. Officials verified essential documents including registration certificates, insurance, fitness certificates and driving licenses of drivers. Special emphasis was laid on the availability and functionality of safety features such as emergency exits, fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, proper seating arrangements and speed governors. The mechanical condition of vehicles, including tyres and braking systems, was also examined.

Furthermore, adherence to prescribed norms such as standard yellow colour coding, proper display of school name and installation of safety grills was checked. Drivers and conductors were sensitized about safe driving practices, avoidance of overloading and strict adherence to traffic regulations, particularly while transporting school children.

During the drive, minor deficiencies were observed in some vehicles and on-the-spot instructions were issued for immediate rectification. Necessary action was also taken against violators under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The Motor Vehicles Department reiterated that such drives will be conducted regularly to enforce compliance and strengthen road safety awareness among all stakeholders.

Bandipora 11-04-2026: The team from Motor Vehicles Department* attended an IEC (Information, Education and Communication) programme conducted under the banner of NMBA on 11-04-2026 at Main Bus Stand Nusoo Bandipora.
During the programme, the following activities were carried out by our department.
1) Distribution of pamphlets highlighting drug abuse and the illicit cultivation of poppy and cannabis among the participants.
The programme was conducted successfully with active participation from Transporters/Driver's, aiming to spread awareness against drug abuse and its illicit cultivation.

Bandipora 06-04-2026: On the directions of the worthy Transport Commissioner, RTO Kashmir, a comprehensive enforcement drive was carried out by ARTO Bandipora under the supervision of ARTO Shri Mukhtar Ahmad Sofi. The drive was conducted by MV Inspector Lateef Ahmad Wani, MV Inspector Abdul Hamid Bhat AMVI Irfan Ali along with other officials of the department.
During the drive, various vehicles including passenger carriers, goods vehicles, and two-wheelers were thoroughly inspected for valid documents, roadworthiness, and adherence to traffic regulations. Violations such as non-possession of valid driving licenses, registration certificates, insurance, overloading, and other offences were strictly dealt with as per rules.
The team also emphasized the importance of road safety, encouraging drivers to follow traffic norms, avoid over-speeding, and ensure proper maintenance of their vehicles. Awareness regarding safe driving practices and compliance with transport laws was imparted on the spot.
The drive was conducted successfully at different locations of Bandipora, ensuring better enforcement and promoting safer roads in the district.

*ARTO Bandipora conducts special enforcement drive across Bandipora*

Bandipora, April 06: On the directions of Transport Commissioner J&K, Vishesh Pal Mahajan, and under the guidance of RTO Kashmir, Qazi Irfan, a day-long special enforcement drive was conducted across various routes of District Bandipora to ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations.

The drive was aimed at enhancing the safety of drivers and passengers and curbing road accidents. The enforcement team, comprising Motor Vehicle Inspector Lateef Ahmad, Inspector Ab Hamid Bhat, and Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector Irfan Ali, carried out intensive checking under the supervision of ARTO Bandipora, M. Mukhtar Sofi.

During the drive, special focus was laid on checking the installation of speed governors in passenger vehicles, use of mobile phones while driving, use of illegal pressure horns, rash driving, overloading, and non-compliance with seat belt and crash helmet norms.

A total of 62 vehicles were challaned under various provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, with a fine amounting to ₹1,22,900 expected to be realised. Additionally, five driving licences were recommended for suspension for serious violations.

ARTO Bandipora stated that such enforcement drives would continue in future to ensure road safety, warning that strict action, including suspension of licences, would be taken against habitual offenders.

Bandipora 03-04-2026: An awareness programme on road safety, transparency, and promotion of electric vehicles was conducted at Main Bus Stand Nusoo Bandipora by MV Inspector Lateef Ahmad Wani under the supervision of ARTO Bandipora Mr.Mukhtar Ahmad Sofi.
During the programme, drivers and members of the public were educated about the importance of adhering to traffic rules, including wearing helmets, using seat belts, avoiding overloading, and maintaining valid vehicle documents. Emphasis was also laid on ensuring transparency in transport-related services and discouraging the use of middlemen.
Participants were further informed about the benefits of electric vehicles, such as reduced fuel costs, lower emissions, and government incentives, encouraging a shift towards eco-friendly transportation.
The programme concluded with an interactive session, where participants’ queries were addressed, promoting responsible driving and safer road practices.
