Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Shri Conrad K. Sangma, visited South Garo Hills District and inaugurated the Rongara C&RD Block. He also attended the CM Connect Programme, engaging with the local community and addressing their concerns and developmental needs. The visit marked an important step towards strengthening grassroots development and bringing government services closer to the people of South Garo Hills.

National Sports Day was organised at various Police Units across South Garo Hills District under the theme "Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat."

As part of the programme, awareness sessions were also conducted for the participants on Traffic Rules and Road Safety, Drug Abuse and Prevention, and the POCSO Act, with the objective of promoting responsible behaviour, road safety, and awareness among the participants.

South Garo Hills District Police successfully conducted an awareness programme under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan at United Baptist Higher Secondary School. The programme focused on creating awareness among students about drug abuse, cybercrime, and the POCSO Act, along with their harmful effects and legal consequences.

As part of the programme, Essay Writing, Drawing and Painting Competitions were organised on themes related to drug abuse prevention and the vision of a drug-free India. Students actively participated in the activities and expressed their thoughts and creativity towards building a healthy and drug-free society.

The awareness sessions also sensitised students about the dangers of drug abuse, cyber-related offences and online fraud, as well as the provisions and consequences of offences under the POCSO Act. Students were encouraged to remain alert, responsible and informed about online safety and personal security.

The programme aimed to motivate the youth to stay away from drugs, remain vigilant against cybercrime, understand the importance of child safety, and contribute positively towards a safer and drug-free society.

Such awareness initiatives at the school level play a vital role in educating and empowering young minds, promoting responsible behaviour, and nurturing a generation that is aware, vigilant and committed to building a drug-free, cyber-safe and child-friendly society.

On the occasion of the 80th Independence Day Celebration, 2026, a flag hoisting ceremony was held with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm at Spors Complex, Baghmara, South Garo Hills District. Shri Damanbait Lamare, Hon’ble MLA of 12-Umroi Constituency, graced the occasion and had the honour of hoisting the National Flag of India.

On 13.08.2026, acting on credible source information, the District ANTF Team of South Garo Hills, Baghmara, intercepted a vehicle and conducted a search, during which suspected contraband substances were recovered from the possession of the following persons:

1. Shri Sengrim K. Sangma, R/o Nongalbibra, P.O. & P.S. Nongalbibra, South Garo Hills.
2. Shri Sentinbirth G. Momin, R/o Rom Gara, Resubelpara, P.O. & P.S. Resubelpara, North Garo Hills.
3. Shri Minarul Islam, R/o Bhelterghat, Krishnai Guria Pt-I, P.O. & P.S. Krishnai, Goalpara, Assam.

During the search, 20 (Twenty) blue pouches containing a total of 3,255 (Three Thousand Two Hundred Fifty-Five) suspected Yaba tablets, weighing approximately 376 grams, were recovered and seized.

All three persons were arrested, and the requisite legal formalities were duly observed. The seizure was carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The District Police fraternity came together to honour and bid a heartfelt farewell to our esteemed retiring colleague Shri Martin Luther M Sangma, CO, VDP, who had served in the department for almost 31 years in recognition of years of dedicated, sincere, and selfless service. We express our deepest gratitude for the invaluable contributions made to the department . We thank him for his service. May his retirement be filled with joy, good health, and cherished moments.

On 10.06.2026, acting on credible source information, the District ANTF Team of South Garo Hills, Baghmara intercepted a vehicle and recovered suspected contraband substances from the possession of
1)Shri Imtadul Hoque (2) Shri Safiqul Islam (3) Shri Mohar Ali, all three from Goalpara, Assam.
During the search,
1. 11 (Eleven) black pouches containing suspected Yaba tablets weighing 210.520 grams.
2. One black plastic bag containing blue-coloured capsules weighing 45.090 grams, suspected to be contraband substances were seized from their possession.
All three persons has been arrested and legal formalities were duly observed at the spot, and the seizure was carried out in accordance with the provisions of the NDPS Act.
