The Rajesh Kumar K.K. Memorial Award, instituted by the Rajesh Kumar K.K. Memorial Trust in memory of Rajesh Kumar, who was the founding chairman of Technos, the engineering students' organization in Kerala, and the first Secretary-General of the Student Parliament at NIT Calicut, has been announced. The 2024 award will be given to internationally acclaimed filmmaker Payal Kapadia. Renowned filmmaker Salim Ahamed will present the award at the memorial event, which will be held on Monday, November 4, at 5 PM at the CSA Auditorium, Angamaly. The award consists of ₹25,000 and a trophy. Payal Kapadia, the first Indian filmmaker to win the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, is eminently notable for her unwavering stand against authority and personalised depiction of struggles within and around, right from her film school days. The awardee was selected by a jury comprising filmmaker Salim Ahamed, editor Bina Paul, and actress Surabhi Lakshmi.
Roji M. John MLA, T V Rajesh (KCCPL Chairman), P K Biju (Ex-MP), Mathew Thomas (Chairman, Angamaly Municipality), K.K. Shibu (CPI(M) Angamaly Area Secretary), K.P. Rejish (Aluva Taluk Library Council Joint Secretary) and Adv. Bibin Varghese (DYFI State Committee member) will attend the memorial event. Several prominent figures from social and cultural fields will also be present at the ceremony.
RAJESH KUMAR K K (1980 – 2013)
Rajesh Kumar, born on August 28, 1980, in Angamaly to K.R. Kumaran Master (former District Secretary of the Purogamana Kalasahitya Sangham) and M.S. Thankamma Teacher, completed his education at MPMGHSS Bellikkoth, MGMGHSS Nayathode, UC College Aluva, NIT Calicut (B.Tech), and Cochin University of Science and Technology (M.Tech). As a student, Rajesh Kumar was actively involved in student organizations as well as in the arts and cultural sectors. He was the founding chairman of Technos, an organization for engineering students in Kerala. Rajesh also served as a member of the SFI state committee, the first Secretary-General of the Student Parliament at NIT Calicut, and the President of the DYFI Angamaly Municipal Committee. In 2008, Rajesh Kumar received several accolades, including the "Sargaprathibha" award at the Cochin University Arts Festival. He tragically passed away on April 27, 2013, due to illness. In his memory, his friends established a trust, and this is the Ninth time the trust is presenting the award.
