AMU Hosts 15-Day National Workshop on Exercise Prescription
ALIGARH, February 7: Aligarh Muslim University inaugurated a 15-day National Workshop on “Exercise Prescription for Gym Training” at the JNMC Auditorium, aimed at promoting scientific and evidence-based approaches to physical fitness and gym training.
The inaugural session was presided over by Prof M Mohsin Khan, Pro Vice-Chancellor, AMU, who highlighted the pivotal role of the Department of Physical Education in fostering sports culture, fitness awareness and healthy lifestyles within the University and the surrounding region.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Aligarh, Neeraj Jadoun, attended the function as Chief Guest and underscored the importance of scientific support and research-backed methodologies in designing exercise protocols for different population groups. He stressed that professionally planned fitness programmes are essential not only for performance enhancement but also for injury prevention and long-term health.
Guest of Honour Prof Yusuf Uzzaman Khan, Secretary of the University Games Committee, emphasised the growing importance of physical fitness in an era marked by sedentary habits and fast-paced lifestyles, particularly among the youth.
Prof Ikram Husain, Chairman, Department of Physical Education, and Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, delivered the welcome address, outlining the department’s commitment to advancing academic excellence while promoting physical well-being.
Providing an overview of the programme, Prof Brij Bhushan Singh, Director of the Workshop, said the national workshop, scheduled from February 6 to February 20, seeks to equip participants with both scientific understanding and practical skills required for designing customised exercise programmes. He added that the sessions would cover fitness assessment, individualised training methods, injury prevention strategies, purposive dietary planning and specialised exercise modules for diverse population groups.
The programme was conducted by Dr Arshad Bari, Organising Secretary of the workshop, while Dr MerajFaridi proposed the vote of thanks.
