Last week, we hosted the Israel National Women’s Ice Hockey team at the Embassy. They are on their way to Estonia where they will be playing against our team as part of IIHF World Championship Tournament in their division. Indeed, we were positively surprised to learn that even in hot and humid places like Israel you can find passionate hockey players that can be serious adversaries to Estonians.

We wish Israeli team the very best of luck. 🤞

On Tuesday, Ambassador Andres Vosman held a courtesy meeting with the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Mr Eli Cohen. The Minister and the Ambassador reiterated good relations between both countries, discussed bilateral energy projects and the importance of focusing on energy security in challenging times.

Both countries aspire to diversify their portfolio and move quickly towards renewable energy sources. In this light, we had a privilege to congratulate Israel on signing the deal with Eesti Energia to build a €100-million cogeneration power plant in eastern Estonia. It will provide additional energy reserves and flexible production capacities.

Hopefully, the coming years will be fruitful for both countries.

Yesterday, our Embassy participated in Freedom Run to commemorate the 14 Lithuanians who lost their lives in confrontation with Soviet forces on 13th January 1991. Luckily, freedom prevailed!

Welcome to the family! 🎉

Yesterday, we welcomed our new Estonian citizens to the Embassy. Around 90 Estonians receive their citizenship in Israel every year. To build bridges, we were happy to invite those who became our nationals this year to provide a “crash course” on Estonia, our history and culture. Around 1100 Estonians are living in Israel and even though our diaspora is very diverse, every citizen is equally important.

In the picture, the counsellor for Estonian diaspora affairs Ms Liina Viies is sharing tips on opportunities to stay connected.

Yesterday, our Embassy had a pleasure to attend the memorial ceremony organised by the Association of Latvian and Estonian Jews in Israel together with Yad Vashem. In 1925 Estonia became the first country to grant cultural autonomy to Jewish population. The N**i occupation of Estonia and Latvia brought a sad end to our local Jewish communities. Following occupation by the Soviet Union continued the cycle of persecution for decades. Only after regaining the independence could Jews be free and strive once again. Today, we embrace our Jewish community living in Estonia and Latvia, but we will always remember the struggle that they had to endure in the past century.

In the picture, we are joined by the Chairman of the Association Mr Rami Gal and the Ambassador of Latvia Mr Gints Serafinovics.

On Monday, we had a pleasure hosting the Undersecretary for Political Affairs Mr Martin Roger in Israel. Together with Latvian and Lithuanian colleagues, they held political consultations with Israel on global and regional challenges. These consultations are important to ensure that all three Baltic countries and Israel understand each other, including our common threats and concerns. Our message was clear - we should work together to support Ukraine and tackle Russian war efforts. We should do all we can to pave the better future for Gaza. We will also stand in solidarity with Israel when facing threats from Iran and their proxies.

We are looking forward to working together and continuing our mutual dialogue.

Today, our new Ambassador Andres Vosman had an honour to present his credentials to the President of Israel Mr Isaac Herzog. 🇪🇪🇮🇱

The President recalled his recent visit to Estonia and a warm welcome he and his wife received in Tallinn. The Ambassador reiterated common geopolitical challenges that both countries are facing these days and the importance of working together and holding a dialogue between each other even on complicated topics. The necessity to support Ukraine in its fight for freedom and doing so together with our Israeli friends and partners will remain one of the key issues. The President and the Ambassador expressed their hope that the war in Gaza will end in a foreseeable future.

Andres Vosman has assumed his duties as the Estonian Ambassador to Israel for the next 4 years.

Seemingly a simple gesture turned out to be an exciting journey.🧳

Here is the letter of Nir and Yuval to our Embassy:

"Dear Embassy of Estonia in Israel,

I am writing to express my sincere gratitude and to share a story that began with your kindness. Almost a year ago, I reached out to your embassy, driven by my deep appreciation and interest in Estonia, and asked if it might be possible to receive an Estonian flag.

The response I received was far beyond what I expected.

Not only did you graciously gift the flag, but you also extended a warm invitation and encouraged me to visit your beautiful country.
I am thrilled to let you know that I recently had the chance to do exactly that. My journey was an adventure in itself. Me and my friend flew to Lithuania and then traveled through Latvia before finally arriving in Estonia.

The moment I arrived in Estonia was very exciting.

During my around 2 weeks visit, I had the privilege of exploring some truly remarkable places, including Tallinn, Tartu, Värska, Lahemaa National Park and Saaremaa Island (Kuressaare). I had an absolutely wonderful time, and my journey has only deepened my fascination with Estonia.

I am already looking forward to the day I can return in the future to discover more of Estonia's rich culture and stunning landscapes.
It's because of your initial kindness that i was inspired to make this trip, and it's a memory i will cherish forever.

Thank you again for your incredible hospitality and for being so helpful and encouraging."

Thank you Nir and Yuval, for these kind words. Beautiful Estonian autumn is waiting! 🍂🍁

Yesterday, we invited our Estonian compatriots living in Israel to celebrate the Estonian Restoration of Independence Day. On 20th August 1991, Estonia regained its freedom from the Soviet Union. In 34 years, we were able to turn the page and build one of the most digitally advanced countries in the world. Today, Estonia is a strong democracy in which every citizen enjoys full political rights and personal liberties. Having experienced the totalitarian regime, we know perfectly well that freedom should never be taken for granted and has to be protected.

This event was also the occasion to greet our new Ambassador in town, Mr Andres Vosman, who will represent Estonia in Israel for the next 4 years. This is his first posting as an Ambassador and surely an adventurous one. Together with Estonian compatriots, we wish him success! 🥳

As the visit of the President of Israel to Estonia concludes, we are also saying goodbye to our Ambassador to Israel Mr. Veikko Kala. From the pandemic to the war with Iran, Veikko has spent the last 4 years in Israel working hard to make Israeli-Estonian relations prosper. Now, he is on his way to Singapore to become our new Ambassador to this small but also very resilient country. We wish him all the best in his new position!
