OPEN DOORS: Philippine Embassy personnel wore blue in observance of World Refugee Day, reaffirming the Philippines' commitment to those forced to flee conflict, persecution, and crisis.

Following today's flag ceremony, Ambassador Aileen S. Mendiola-Rau read President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s World Refugee Day message, emphasizing compassion and support for displaced communities.

The occasion also recalled the Philippines' proud humanitarian tradition, including President Manuel Quezon's Open Door Policy, which provided safe haven to more than 1,300 Jewish refugees escaping the Holocaust, a reflection of the Filipino values of malasakit, humanity, and solidarity with refugees seeking safety, hope, and a place to rebuild their lives.

WATCH: President Manuel Quezon's Rescue of Jews During the Holocaust Remembered in World Refugee Day

For over a century, the Philippines has opened its doors to those seeking refuge - from White Russians, Jewish refugees escaping the Holocaust, Spanish Republicans, Chinese, Vietnamese, Cambodians, Iranians, East Timorese, Rohingyas, Afghans, and others displaced by conflict and persecution. This tradition of compassion continues today through Philippine support for vulnerable and displaced communities worldwide.

On this World Refugee Day, we reaffirm the enduring Filipino values of malasakit, hospitality, and solidarity toward those in need.

YOUNG ISRAELI STUDENTS GIFT PH EMBASSY WITH ROBOT FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY

As part of the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv’s month-long celebration of the 128th Philippine Independence Day, young innovators from Naftali Yadlin Interdisciplinary Campus visited the Embassy and unveiled a special gift: Herbie 2.0, a robot created by the school’s robotics team, 3140 Mars Monkeys, especially for the Philippines.

Based in Rishon LeZion, a sister city of Quezon City, Yadlin School is known for its innovative and pioneering student-centered approach to education, nurturing young talents in science, technology, innovation, and the arts.

Designed in the colors of the Philippine flag, Herbie 2.0 waves the Philippine flag, greets people, dances, plays number games, and responds to movement through its sensors. Created by students aged 12 to 14, the robot showcases their remarkable skills in programming, artificial intelligence, and robotics.

During their visit, the students toured the Embassy’s Colors of Freedom exhibit, learning about the history and significance of the Philippine flag and its role in the country’s struggle for independence. They also learned about President Manuel Quezon’s inspiring rescue of Jewish refugees during the Holocaust, as well as the longstanding friendship between the Philippines and Israel.

The Embassy expressed its deep appreciation to the 3140 Mars Monkeys team for their thoughtful and inspiring gift. Herbie 2.0 will be proudly displayed at the Embassy as a symbol of friendship and tech innovation. The Embassy also thanked education advocate Tova Ben Ari, Principal Orna Shelly, the teachers, and students of Yadlin School for their warm gesture and assured them that Herbie 2.0 will be well cared for.

As part of efforts to further strengthen youth and innovation exchanges, the Embassy will facilitate connections between the 3140 Mars Monkeys team and Philippine student robotics groups, including science and technology-focused schools, to explore opportunities for knowledge sharing, student exchanges, and possible joint robotics projects.

PHILIPPINE AMBASSADOR ENGAGES ISRAELI YOUTH ON CHILDREN’S RIGHTS AT NATIONAL FINAL EVENT

Tel Aviv, 10 June 2026 - Philippine Ambassador to Israel Aileen Mendiola-Rau was the guest speaker at the Young Ambassadors of Children’s Rights Convention on the Rights of the Child National Final Event hosted by the Israeli Ministry of Education and held virtually via Zoom.

The event gathered approximately 300 high school students from across Israel, providing a platform to deepen awareness and engagement on the protection and promotion of children’s rights.

In her presentation, Ambassador Mendiola-Rau provided an overview of key international human rights instruments, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), along with its Optional Protocols. She highlighted how these frameworks guide national policies and actions to safeguard children’s rights globally.

Drawing from the Philippine experience, the Ambassador discussed how the country operationalizes its commitments through its Constitution, domestic legislation, and targeted policies. She emphasized programs that support vulnerable children, including financial assistance initiatives for low-income families, protection mechanisms for children affected by conflict, and comprehensive disaster risk reduction measures.

The Ambassador cited the Philippines’ exposure to natural hazards - including typhoons, flooding, and earthquakes, notably the recent magnitude 7.8 earthquake - as a context in which child-centered protection systems are critically applied to ensure safety, continuity of education, and access to essential services.

Ambassador Mendiola-Rau underscored the importance of a whole-of-society approach in advancing children’s rights:
