Strengthening the Borders, Building the Future
This week, Mayor Nir Wanger of the Tamar Regional Council took centre stage at the 11th Kibbutz Leadership Conference, held at the iconic David Dead Sea Hotel — right here in our own backyard.
Hundreds of kibbutz leaders and community representatives from across Israel gathered to address one of the most pressing issues facing the country today: the future of border settlements and the communities that call them home.
Mayor Wanger welcomed delegates and spoke passionately about the vital importance of strengthening Israel's eastern border — acknowledging the very real challenges these communities face, while highlighting the extraordinary opportunities that come with building life in one of the world's most remarkable regions.
Because out here, on the shores of the Dead Sea, resilience isn't just a word. It's a way of life.
The Tamar Regional Council remains firmly committed to the development, growth and protection of the communities of the Dead Sea region — and to ensuring that life on Israel's eastern border continues to flourish.

Where Art Meets the Desert
Yesterday, the Ein Gedi Educational Village threw open its doors to the next generation of young artists. Nestled between ancient cliffs and the shimmering shores of the Dead Sea, this is a place where creativity doesn't just flourish — it soars.
Prospective students and their families arrived to discover the extraordinary world that the Tamar Regional Council and the Ministry of Education have built here — studios, music rooms, performance spaces, and a community that nurtures every young person who walks through its doors.
They were welcomed by something truly special: performances, galleries and artistic presentations from students who have already completed the three-year Bikkurim Programme — living proof of what becomes possible when young people are given the space, the support and the inspiration to create.
Out here, on the edge of the desert, in one of the most breathtaking landscapes on earth, the arts are alive and well. And the young people of the Dead Sea region are thriving.

⚡ Powering the future — Tamar joins the national conversation
Representatives of the Tamar Regional Council have been taking part in Israel's largest annual Municipal Corporations Conference — a gathering of government ministers, Knesset members, heads of national companies, corporation CEOs and local authority leaders from every corner of the country.
One of the headline panels asked a big question: "Will someone cut the power?" — is Israel truly prepared for the energy challenges ahead? It's a vital issue for every community, and one we take to heart here in Tamar, where life in the desert means we know a thing or two about making the most of our natural resources.
Artificial intelligence was high on the agenda too, with discussions on how smart, cutting-edge tools can help local authorities improve services, make better decisions and work more efficiently.
Here in Tamar — home to the Dead Sea and the lowest point on Earth — we're proud to be part of these conversations. We're always learning, always renewing, and always bringing home fresh knowledge, tools and ideas.
Because great service for our residents starts with staying curious — and staying switched on.

🏋️‍♀️ Fancy a workout at the lowest place on Earth?
Great news from Ein Gedi! Our newly refurbished gym at the halls complex is officially open and ready for action.
Picture this: you're getting your steps in, lifting a few weights, breaking a sweat... all roughly 430 metres below sea level, with the Dead Sea sparkling just down the road. Not your average gym view!
As part of the Regional Council's ongoing programme to upgrade public spaces across our communities, the gym has been given a complete makeover — a fresh, safe and modern setting where residents can train in comfort.
Whether you're a dedicated early-bird or a "I'll start tomorrow" type (no judgement here ), the door is open and the equipment is waiting.
Here's to healthy bodies, happy minds, and possibly the most scenic workout on the planet.

What is community, anyway?
Ask ten people and you'll get ten answers — but here in the Tamar region, we've had a fair bit of practice working it out.
Community is the neighbour who turns up at your door with a cake you didn't ask for, on a day you didn't know you needed it. It's the children who race across the lawn calling out names of grown-ups who aren't their parents — and somehow belong to all of them anyway. It's the dining room where the soup is sometimes excellent, sometimes mysterious, but the conversation is always worth staying for.
Community is the friend who remembers your birthday when you've forgotten it yourself. The committee meeting that runs forty minutes longer than planned because someone brought biscuits. The wave from across the road that means I see you, I'm glad you're here.
Out in this corner of the world — between desert and sea, mountain and salt — community is also what makes the landscape liveable. Anyone can admire a sunset. It takes a village to share one.
Whether it's a kibbutz, a moshav or a small desert settlement, the recipe is much the same: a few good people, a willingness to show up, and a generous helping of patience. Stir gently. Serve often.
Here are a few glimpses of community life around Tamar. We hope they make you smile. 💛

Today we mark Educator's Day — and here in Tamar, it's so much more than a date on the calendar.
It's our chance to thank the people who spark curiosity in our children, nurture their love of learning, and teach them what it means to belong to a community and to care about one another.
To the wonderful teams in the kindergartens and schools across Tamar — you are our children's anchor, their compass, and a daily source of inspiration. Because of you, education in our region keeps growing stronger, and the whole community grows with it.
Is there an educator who has made a difference in your life? Take a moment today to thank them. 💛

🌿 Shabbat Shalom from Ein Gedi 🌿
From the gardens of the Ein Gedi Hotel, a quiet moment looking out across Nachal Arugot — where the desert folds itself into ridges and ravines, and a ponytail palm sways gently in the foreground as if it, too, is settling in for the day of rest.
There is something about this view that asks you to slow down. The cliffs have been here for millions of years, patient and unhurried. The wadi has carved its way through stone with nothing but time and water. And we — fortunate enough to live alongside such beauty — pause once a week to breathe it in.
May your Shabbat be peaceful, your table full, and your hearts light.
Shabbat Shalom from all of us at the Dead Sea 🕊️
