Ireland's National Opera House

A state-of-the-art auditorium tactfully inserted into a dense, historic urban plan; a “secret gem” tucked away behind a reinstated street-front. Lighting bridges within the room, precision-crafted to be shown off, like the bridges of a stringed instrument. Stage and forestage layout and technology allow the presentation of six different performances in a three day cycle. Excellent sight-lines, optimised for performance on the forestage, in accordance with the Wexford Festival Opera tradition. Horseshoe-shaped balconies, where the audiences in the upper levels are brought into better contact with the stage, enhance the performance experience for audiences and performers alike. This layout, which was largely abandoned in 20th Century design, enhances the atmosphere by populating the side walls of the auditorium, making the audience more ‘visible’ to itself. The operational flexibility given by the orchestra pit lifts, and the stage and backstage facilities, together with the horse shoe-shaped balconies, arguably qualify National Opera House as Ireland’s first fully-specified purpose-built opera house. "‘Unnatural Causes ' tells the story of not only the cases and bodies that have haunted Doctor Shepherd the most, but also how to live a life steeped in death."

Meet the forensic pathologist, Dr Richard Shepherd. A detective in his own right, who has solved the mystery of sudden and unexplained deaths as he takes to the road in 2027. Dr Shepherd has performed over 23,000 autopsies, including some of the most high-profile cases of recent times; the Hungerford Massacre, the Princess Diana inquiry, and 9/11. He has faced serial killers, natural disaster, 'perfect murders' and freak accidents. His evidence has put killers behind bars, freed the innocent, and turned open-and-shut cases on their heads. Yet all this has come at a huge personal cost. Join Dr Richard Shepherd for an evening which promises to be utterly fascinating.

With just one month left till Niall Breslin Bressie takes to the stage at the National Opera House on Sunday 8th November, he chats to the Wexford People about how this tour is his most "personal" yet.

Tickets are still available👉 https://rebrand.ly/fzgwjrw

Niall Breslin has shared a stage with Oprah Winfrey, given her a sod of Westmeath turf and discussed everything from mindfulness and grief to the state of the world.

Now, fresh from that extraordinary encounter, the musician, former rugby star and mental health advocate is preparing to bring his most personal show yet to Wexford.

Bressie as he is commonly known is embarking on one of his biggest Irish tours this autumn with his new album and book, The Place That Has Never Been Wounded, culminating in an immersive performance at the National Opera House on November 8.

Describing the show as a “personal curation of music, spoken word and visuals”, Bressie said audiences can expect something very different from anything he has done before – with his cinematic compositions providing “the soundtrack to the stories”.
