You may be wondering why I'm putting up an image of this strange mix of objects. Are we having a clear out or have I just not had enough sleep?
Well, you're going to have to come to our Welcoming the Winter Birds event on Sunday 25th from 11am to 4pm to find out!
Not only will this puzzle become clear, but you'll be able to chat with Ireland staff, do a spot of birdwatching, avail of the special offers from Dec's Pets, enjoy Dave Daly's art exhibition and relax with a cuppa and a biscuit.

Even more geese have shown their adorable beaks on the Slob. This time it's the Pink-footed Geese, who are scarce but regular visitors. They've come all the way from Greenland to enjoy our gourmet soggy grass. A few Brents were spotted over the weekend, which means all we need are the Barnacles to have our full complement of geese!

If you've lost a trail cam (not the one in the picture), which you put out last September but when you went back it had disappeared - then we may have it!
A trail camera was found yesterday by staff, washed up by the seawall down here at the Reserve. Looking at the SD card (which amazingly is still fine), it seems to have been bobbing around in the water for quite a while, hence why we can't read the details written on the side by the owner.
If you think it may be yours, and you'd like it back, then give us a call on 01 5393460.

The geese aren't the only birds who have arrived back in: the dulcet tones of the first Whooper Swans have been ringing out over the reserve for the past few days as well. The local Mute Swans have been seen sullenly sitting in their nest muttering about noisy tourists as the Whoopers rest on the channel and trumpet away to each other.

Those white-faced smudges in the field can mean only one thing: it's officially goose season! At least 12 Greenland White-fronted Geese have landed, first spotted by some eagle-eyed visitors this morning. They're all looking rather exhausted after their long flight, napping in the long grass, but these early arrivals will have the whole Slob to themselves for a bit, at least until the rest of them get here.

Be sure to join us for our free 'Welcoming the Winter Birds' event on the 25th of October to try and spot them for yourselves!
