Come explore a thought – provoking exploration of fashion, textile waste, creativity and our connection to the natural world.

Created by Enniscorthy-based circular designer, Lynn Haughton of the Upcycle Movement, the exhibition centres around a globe sculpture made from discarded clothing and invites visitors to explore the impacts behind the clothes we wear – from the resources used to make them to what else is possible when we no longer want them.

The ‘Material World’ exhibition will run at Gorey Library from the 6th until 10th October.
Schools will visit the exhibition on Tuesday 6th Oct; Wednesday 7th Oct and Thursday 8th October.
An evening talk / session will take place on Tuesday 6th October in Gorey Library at 6pm, facilitated by Lynn Haughton of The Upcycle Movement. All Welcome

Visitors are invited to add their own voice to the project by leaving a message to Mother Earth, sharing a thought, a wish, hope, or reflection for the future. These messages will help shape a future exhibition, allowing the voices gathered throughout the tour to become part of the continuing story of Material World.

The exhibition and all associated school, community, and evening sessions/talks are completely free to attend.

To enquire about availability for the school tours or evening sessions email [email protected]

Our latest cleanup was a real labour of love!

As a small group of volunteers, we do this purely out of passion and a genuine care for our local environment and heritage.

We had actually cleaned this area a few years ago, but with only a handful of volunteers it became harder and harder to keep on top of it, and it had become completely overgrown. The view of St. Mary’s Abbey was almost hidden, and our chairperson Mary was particularly worried about the old stone wall - the thick covering of ivy and large briars could have been causing serious damage. Invasive Turkey Oak saplings had also started to take root in places.

It was tough going at times, but five of our volunteers - Mary, Angie, Bernie, Rita and Heather - and of course Kevin who was on hand for the heavy lifting, put in a fantastic effort.

Over three Tuesday mornings, the team painstakingly:

• Removed the ivy and briars from the wall and surrounding area (with expert advice beforehand)
• Pruned back large overgrown shrubs
• Removed the invasive Turkey Oak saplings
• Tidied up the large specimen conifer by removing the dead branches at the bottom
• Weeded the gravel and footpath areas
• Picked a full bag of litter and broken glass
• Rearranged the border stones and gave the whole area a good rake

The difference a few hours has made is unbelievable - we can once again see St. Mary’s Abbey, and we’re delighted to say the old stone wall wasn’t damaged at all.

We’ll finish the project in early Spring with some new planting and gravel.

If you’d like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you. We need more hands on deck to make an even bigger difference to our lovely town!

Artist and Writer Jeffrey Gormly is currently working in Ferns on a creative residency in the community.
He would love input from the community on the theme of ‘The Spirit of Ferns’.

He has been contracted by Wexford County Council to act as an Artist in Ferns, in connection with the building of the new housing estate Edan’s Glen. His job is to get to know our town, our community and to explore creative process together.

He has created a simple survey and is asking as many people as possible to fill out the survey here: https://forms.gle/cNidFqAXpZb4JEHV6

Some of the questions are unusual - just remember there are no wrong answers!

And it would be really wonderful if you made a picture or took a photograph that illustrated some aspect of life in Ferns that feels really important to you.

You can upload them on the survey or send to Jeffrey at [email protected]
or drop into the ArtBox in the coffee area in Centra Ferns. #

Ferns Dramatic Society are delighted to present James McLure’s Laundry and Bourbon.

Please come and join us for Ferns Dramatic Society’s production of James McLure’s comedy, Laundry and Bourbon.

This short play (run time 60 minutes) is set in small-town Texas. Elizabeth and her friend Hattie spend a hot afternoon folding laundry, drinking bourbon and Coke, and gossiping about their neighbours. They are joined by self-righteous Amy Lee, who is only there to reveal that Elizabeth’s husband, Roy, has been seen with another woman.

Although the conversation is humorous and full of small-town gossip, it gradually reveals the difficulties in the women’s marriages.

📅 Friday and Saturday, 25th and 26th September
📍 Ferns Community Centre
⏰ 8 pm
🎟️ Tickets on the door (€10) includes refreshments.

Come along for an evening of comedy, gossip and small-town drama! 🥂🎭

MEET OUR YOUNGEST HERO - RAYAN! 💚

We would like to introduce you to a wonderful little boy who has become so passionate about keeping Ferns clean and tidy.

Last Sunday, Rayan spent his whole day walking a full 8km loop around Ferns, collecting rubbish along the way. He collected 3 full bags of litter! 👏👏

Rayan and his family go out 2 or 3 times a month to collect rubbish around the village. He absolutely loves recycling and already understands at such a young age the importance of looking after our environment and keeping our community clean ♻️💚

Rayan is looking forward to joining Junior Tidy Towns to help with litter-picking, community clean-ups, planting flowers, or anything else where his little hands can be of help.

What an inspiration! We are so proud of you, Rayan — Ferns is lucky to have you.

Well done from all of us! 👏♻️

Shared with permission from Rayan's very proud mum, Edina.
