We're supporting Maths Week 2026!

Maths Week is an all-island initiative that promotes positive attitudes towards maths and highlights the importance of maths and numeracy in our everyday lives.

By getting behind Maths Week, we want to highlight that numeracy is about much more than maths. We all use numbers in our daily lives, from reading a timetable and managing money to understanding bills and budgeting for household costs.

Follow along in our stories this week as we share some simple messages about maths and numeracy.

A Playful City developed the Playful Street programme as a low-cost, safe way to temporarily transform local streets into vibrant play spaces by restricting vehicle access for a few hours.

This temporary placemaking approach highlights the potential of everyday streets to become lively community hubs, where children can play freely and neighbours can connect. Piloted nationally across Ireland and here in Co. Wexford, specifically in New Ross, in partnership with Sports Active Wexford the initiative fosters stronger community ties and encourages outdoor play.

Last weekend we were delighted to help bring the pilot to Traveller children in Marshmeadows, in addition to earlier events over the summer in Woodbine Close and Ard An Bhile.

The programme addresses key barriers such as traffic safety concerns and the lack of formal road closure processes by creating a community-driven, scalable model. This includes streamlined procedures for temporary street closures, community engagement, playful infrastructure, and risk management. Building on insights from Playful Streets and related programmes, A Playful City drafted an amendment to the Roads Act to support safer, more accessible street play across Ireland.

This is fantastic news for the Cornmarket Project and the people it serves.

REJOIN is an innovative initiative which will open new pathways to support across County Wexford and make a real difference in the lives of local people.

€142,500 to help build safer communities through restorative justice.

We are delighted that the Cornmarket Project, a part of Wexford Local Development, has been awarded funding through the Department of Justice’s Community Safety Fund to develop REJOIN: Restorative Justice Online Initiative.

This innovative initiative will open new pathways to support across County Wexford. A secure online portal will enable victims, people responsible for harm, families and concerned others to make confidential enquiries and access restorative justice support, alongside professional referrals.

Our aim is clear: give people affected by harm a voice, support accountability and create opportunities to repair harm and rebuild relationships.

Thank you to the Department of Justice for supporting our vision of more accessible restorative justice and safer communities.
