Westport Tidy Towns Westport Tidy Towns The tidy towns competition was established in 1958 and is organised by The department of environment, community and local government.

The competition is the epitome of community spirit, with local people coming together to improve their local areas. Tidy towns inspire a huge amount of voluntary effort in towns and villages across the country, with now over eight hundred competition entries each year. Westport have been very successful in the Tidy towns competition having been overall winners in 2001,2006 and 2008, and also receiving the large town award in 2003,2004,2008,2009,2012 and most recently in 2014, with special thanks to it's hard working and dedicated volunteers, committee, businesses and local community. Our aim is to continue to work together to keep Westport one of Irelands tidiest towns.

The recent interview with Peter Flynn is well worth a listen. It highlights how much local services have been reduced. Gus O'Toole and his team of outdoor staff are doing excellent work, but they can't deliver the level of service communities expect without proper budgets, equipment and manpower. As the interview outlines, the local authority currently has just two lawnmowers and seven staff to cover the entire area. We, as a voluntary organisation, are happy to support where we can, but volunteers can't nor should we be expected to replace properly resourced public services. Mayo.ie

Social media can easily become one more task on an already busy list. If you’re posting without a clear plan, or you’re not sure where to focus the limited time you have, this session will help you step back and take a fresh look.

Guest speaker Caroline Kelly, Digitally Direct West, will show you how to:
