Enjoy free admission this Wednesday Oct 7th (if you dare)!
The veil is thinning…
In Irish folklore, as we move toward Samhain, the boundary between our world and the spirit world grows thin. Ghosts, ancestors, and otherworldly beings can more easily cross over — and nowhere feels more fitting than the ancient spiral stairs of Reginald’s Tower.
Do you dare climb the stone steps of Ireland’s oldest civic building, feel the centuries press close, and decide for yourself if the stories are true…

More from our other Heritage Week events at Reginald's Tower, and a huge thank you to all who joined us for Stella baistí featuring Kaya Keating, Seanie Byrne and Darragh Browne at Reginald’s Tower on Friday 21st August.

Your support made our free afternoon concert such a special part of the week as they recreated the sounds of the prison Ballroom.

We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

ANTIQUITIES ROADSHOW
with Thomas Desmond

Heritage Week event in Reginald's Tower.
FREE talk & assessment of artefacts on Tuesday, 18th of August 2026 at 1pm to 3pm.

Tommy Desmond started in Archaeology in 1990 on the Viking excavations in Arundel Square under the tutorage of Senior Archaeologists, Maurice Hurley & Orla Scully. He took part in all of the excavations in Waterford City, from Penney's to the site of the Medieval Museum, where, in 2010, they uncovered evidence that dated Waterford as Ireland's oldest Viking City. Tommy also worked on numerous excavations in Dungarvan Castle as well as in Barryscourt Castle outside Middleton. He monitored excavations all over the South East and beyond. Tommy's main interests are prehistoric archaeology and flint tools, but he is also an accomplished poet and passionate advocate for the protection of animals and the environment.
He reckons over 35 years he has seen more of Waterford's history from prehistoric all the way through to modern times than any other Waterford person, and he still enjoys discovering more.

Booking is advised but walk-ins are welcome on the day as long as seats are available. Feel free to pop in just for Tommy's fascinating talk. There's no obligation to bring artefacts or stay for the entire event. Access to the event is by stone spiral staircase only!
