St Brigids Children Centre St. Brigid’s Children Centre is a community childcare service located in Powersfield, Hennessy’s Road, Waterford, At St. Brigid’s Family and Community Centre.

Brigid’s Children Centre we provide high quality childcare that is affordable, accessible and inclusive in a child centered environment where children play, have fun and learn under the care of dedicated and professional childcare staff. The Children Centre is an integral part of St. Our business is Community Development and Support. And what better way to support families and encounter community participation than with the provision of quality affordable and accessible childcare. Our curriculum and programmes reflect the diversity of our children and their families. We provide experience and learning opportunities appropriate to each child’s stage of development and which focus on the holistic development of every child. In the Children Centre children are supported to engage as active agents in their own development and learning, and to explore their environment and participate in problem solving and decision making. Our staff are highly qualified and experienced and appreciate the value of play in a child’s learning process. We value the role of parents and families in the lives of children and we work in partnership with them, and involve parents in all aspects of our service and their child’s education. Some of our parent’s supports include parenting groups, workshops, information provision and one to one work, with the additional services available on the Lower Yellow Road including counselling, play therapy and the Family Resource Centre. We hope to enable our parents to be the best possible parent they can be and maximise their input in their child’s life. Our aim is to provide a ‘one stop shop’ for families by delivering parenting workshops, family support and group activities.

Some lessons matter more than anything we can teach from a book. ❤️

2/5 in my “Raise the Kid” series.

Raise the child who notices when someone is sitting alone.
The one who doesn’t just see it, but does something about it.
The one who walks over, makes room, and helps someone feel like they belong.

Because sometimes one small act of kindness can stay with someone for years. 🫶

Save this reminder and share it with a parent, teacher, or school community that believes inclusion starts young.

What looks like defiance is often exhaustion.

If your child holds it together all day at school and then completely falls apart the moment they get home...

That's not bad behavior. That's after-school restraint collapse.

They've spent the whole day being "good," listening, following rules, holding in big feelings.

Home is where they finally feel safe enough to let it all out.

It's not disrespect. It's release. It's communication that says "I'm tired, I held so much today, I need you."

In those moments, they don't need correction. They need connection.

A snack. A hug. A quiet moment. No questions.

✨Yesterday was an emotional day as children had their last day in their rooms for this year.👫🧑‍🤝‍🧑👭👬
Stepping up Day Monday for Busy Bees and Seaside Rooms and looking forward to welcoming our new children and families to St Brigid's.
Sept 1st then for returning Flower, Jungle and Sunny Days children.
And not forgetting our children starting Junior Infants and joining After-school, a monumental Step Up for them.
It's been a fantastic year with so much fun and learning, here's to the next one at the Children Centre ✨✨✨✨✨✨

***IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT***

14/08/2026

It can look like defiance when a child doesn’t do what you’ve asked.

But sometimes the problem isn’t willingness.

Cognitive inflexibility can make it genuinely difficult to shift from one idea, plan or expectation to another — even when the child understands what you’ve asked.

So instead of thinking, “They’re refusing to listen,” it can help to ask:

“Is changing their plan harder than it looks?”

The behaviour may be telling you that flexibility is the part they’re struggling with — not that they’re choosing to disobey.
