🚨 MEET OUR NEWEST VOLUNTEER – GEORGE 🚨

We’re delighted to introduce George, the newest volunteer to join the Irish Coast Guard – Tramore Unit. 🌊🛟

Originally from Co. Meath, George moved to Tramore six years ago and has now decided to give something back to his local community by volunteering with our unit.

George will begin his training alongside the team, learning the skills required to assist with search and rescue operations and help keep our community safe.

👏 Welcome to the team, George!

We wish him the very best as he starts his journey with Tramore Coast Guard.

Summer statistics from June to August for the busiest year for Irish Coast Guard

Well done to everyone 👏

🛟 Minister of State with responsibility for the Irish Coast Guard, Seán Canney, is reflecting on a busy summer period for the Irish Coast Guard, and other emergency services.

The second week of July saw the busiest ever single week for the Coast Guard, with a record 140 incidents through that week. This highlights the scale of demand put on emergency services this summer.

🗣️ Minister Canney:
“The prolonged periods of warm weather throughout the summer brought increased traffic to our beaches and waterways, and in tandem, an increase of incidents. Through its leadership and coordination of Ireland's maritime search and rescue, the Coast Guard, together with its partner life-saving organisations, has once again demonstrated the dedication, professionalism and coordinated response capability that help keep Ireland's coastline safe”

📞 If you see somebody in difficulty in the water or along the coast or think they are in difficulty, use marine VHF channel 16, or dial 112 or 999 and ask for the Coast Guard.

🚨 CALLOUT – SWIMMER IN DIFFICULTY 🚨

At 14:10 today, our team was tasked by MRCC Dublin following reports of a swimmer in difficulty in the Guillamene area, Tramore.

A team quickly responded to the scene. On arrival, it was confirmed that the person had made it safely out of the water with the assistance of another swimmer. Well done to the swimmer who stepped in to help. 👏

Tramore RNLI was also responding but was stood down during launch once it was confirmed the casualty was safely ashore.

Our team assessed the person, who thankfully did not require medical attention but was understandably a little shaken following the ordeal.

⚠️ Water Safety Reminder
If you're going swimming, always tell someone where you're going and when you expect to return.

In an emergency on or near the coast, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.

📸 WEEKLY TRAINING

Check out a few shots captured during our weekly training exercise this morning.

Our team trains every week to keep our skills sharp and ensure we’re ready to respond whenever we’re needed. 🚨

Regular training helps us maintain the high level of teamwork, knowledge and practical skills required for the wide range of incidents we may be called to.

A big thanks to team member Brad for the great camera work this morning! 📸👏

**Public Safety Message**

It has been a busy few days for our volunteers, responding to a number of incidents, including reports of missing children on Tramore Beach

With the fine weather continuing and more people visiting our beaches and coastline, we ask everyone to take a few simple precautions to help keep themselves and others safe:

🌊 Always keep children within sight and never leave them unattended near the water.
🛶 If you're heading out on the water, wear a suitable lifejacket or personal flotation device and check the weather and sea conditions before setting off.
🚫 Never block emergency access points, slipways, or entrances. These routes must remain clear at all times to allow emergency services to respond quickly.
🏖️ Swim at lifeguarded beaches where possible and always follow local safety advice and warning flags.

If you see someone in difficulty in or near the water, don't enter the water yourself unless it is safe to do so. Dial 999 or 112 immediately and ask for the Coast Guard

Your actions can make a vital difference. Enjoy the sunshine, respect the water, and help us keep our coastline safe for everyone.

At 11:40 p.m. tonight, we pause to remember the brave crew of Rescue 111 on the 27th anniversary of their tragic loss.

We remember:

• Captain Dave O'Flaherty
• Captain Michael (Mick) Baker
• Sergeant Paddy (Patrick) Mooney
• Corporal Niall Byrne

Twenty-seven years may have passed, but for many across the emergency services, the memories of that night remain as vivid as ever. Some of our own serving members still remember those events and the profound impact they had on the emergency services community.

Tonight, we honour four courageous men who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of others. Their professionalism, dedication, and selfless commitment to protecting life will never be forgotten.

Gone, but never forgotten.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha.
