The HSE National Ambulance Service (NAS) is continually working to improve the care provided to HSE patients and provide much faster access to care. Innovations in ambulance service provision, such as the introduction of the Advanced Paramedic training programme and a system of up-skilling for the 1,200 Paramedics, have produced significant improvements in patient care.

đź’š What would you do if you were with someone who suffered a cardiac arrest?

This short film, 'Where’s Your Nearest Defib, Sir?' is a timely reminder this Restart a Heart Day to learn CPR, know where your nearest defibrillator is, and be ready to act in an emergency.

❤️ Today is Restart a Heart Day!

Every minute matters when someone experiences an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Starting CPR quickly can help keep blood flowing until emergency services arrive and improve a person’s chance of survival dramatically.

There’s encouraging progress here in Ireland. According to the latest OHCAR Report, the rate of bystander CPR in out-of-hospital cardiac arrests increased from 60% in 2012 to 85% in 2025.

You don’t need to be a healthcare professional to save a life. Learning CPR and knowing how to use an AED could help you make a life-saving difference to someone in your community.

Ahead of Restart a Heart Day tomorrow, yesterday on RTÉ Radio 1, Oliver Callan spoke to Ralph Lynch, who credits the quick actions of bystanders with saving his life when he suffered a cardiac arrest. Ralph’s son is our Community Engagement Officer Jonathan, making this story particularly close to home.

Ralph received help from paramedics, a nurse and a Community First Responder who stepped in when he needed it most. His story is a powerful reminder of how knowing CPR and acting quickly can make all the difference.

Also featured was Dr Conor Deasy, President of the Irish Association for Emergency Medicine, discussing the importance of knowing CPR and responding to cardiac arrest in an emergency.

Ahead of Restart a Heart Day, we’re encouraging everyone to learn CPR and how to use an AED. You could help save a life.

Monaghan and Castleblayney Ambulance Station attended the CMETB Careers Day at the Hillgrove Hotel on Tuesday.

There was huge interest in the work of NAS and how to become a Paramedic expressed by many of the near 1500 students that were in attendance.

Thank you to everyone who came up to talk to us, and of course thank you to our wonderful team for doing such a great job representing NAS.

We're experiencing a high volume of emergency calls this evening (Friday 9 October).

Our incredible ambulance crews, call-takers and support staff are working around the clock to respond to those who need us most.

You can help by only calling in a real emergency. If your condition is not life-threatening, consider contacting your GP, local pharmacy, GP Out of Hours service or attending an Injury Unit where appropriate.

If you do need to call 999 or 112, please stay calm, answer the call taker's questions and follow any instructions they provide. This helps us get the right care to the right patient as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as our teams continue to provide emergency care across the country.

At the end of September, we had 361 active Community First Responder (CFR) groups across the country, up from 344 at the same time last year.

That growth reflects the continued commitment of volunteers who give their time to support their local communities and provide vital assistance while an ambulance is on the way.

Is mór againn an obair a dhéanann ár CFRs ar fud na tíre, go raibh maith agaibh go léir. 💚

During Episode 3 of the docuseries "First Timers on the Front Line", student Paramedic AnneMarie opened up about her own mental health experiences after attending a call where unfortunately a young woman died by su***de.

That episode has now been shortlisted for the Mental Health Media Awards Audience Choice Award. It's fantastic to see our staff getting this recognition while putting mental health within the ambulance service and the type of calls we sadly attend to in the spotlight.
