📚👻 We were delighted to welcome author Dave Rudden to Sligo Library yesterday as part of the Children's Book Festival 2026!

Third class pupils from Scoil Ursula joined us for a fantastic session filled with storytelling, imagination, spooky creatures and a fascinating insight into the world of creative writing. Dave shared his experiences as a writer and introduced the children to the creepy mysteries and monstrous adventures of his 𝘛𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘋𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘪𝘴𝘭𝘦 series! 📖✨

A huge thank you to Dave for such an entertaining and inspiring visit, and to the pupils and teachers of Scoil Ursula for joining us and making it such an enjoyable event!

🎃🎃 Our Halloween Costume Swap has officially begun!

We were delighted to welcome Áine O'Loughlen, Environmental Awareness Officer with Sligo County Council, along with some enthusiastic parents, to Sligo Central Library this morning to browse our costume rail.

A fantastic selection of costumes is now available to pick up, so call in soon because once they're gone, they're gone!

A huge thank you to everyone who generously donated costumes and supported this initiative as it's a great way to give costumes a second life, save money, and help make Halloween more sustainable. ♻️👻

The deadline has been extended for the Unheard Voice Award 2026. Applications are now due in by Friday 16 October 2026 at 4pm.

✍️ NEW DEADLINE: UNHEARD VOICE AWARD 2026

Applications remain open for the Unheard Voice Award, supporting an emerging or mid-career writer based in County Sligo whose background or community is under-represented in Irish writing.

The award provides:
✨ A €2,000 bursary
✨ Four one-to-one mentoring sessions with an established writer

Applications are welcomed from writers working in fiction, poetry, theatre, screenwriting and non-fiction.

📅 New closing date: Friday 16 October 2026 at 4pm

Sligo County Council wishes to advise the public that the majority of local authority services will be affected by planned industrial action on Wednesday, 14 October 2026.
All local authority buildings, including libraries, will be closed to the public on that day.
Contingency arrangements will be in place to support the continued delivery of essential services; however, normal service provision will be disrupted.
Fire services will not be affected by this industrial action and will continue to operate as normal.
Members of the public are advised to visit www.sligococo.ie and follow Sligo County Council's social media channels for the latest updates.

Sligo Library has Home Energy Saving Kits available to borrow for one week! 📦🏡
Each kit contains five tools and six practical exercises to help you:

✔️ Understand your home’s energy consumption
✔️ Identify where savings can be made
✔️ Spot common problems like lack of insulation, poor ventilation, or electricity-hungry appliances

The kits focus on three key areas: space heating, hot water, and electricity consumption, helping you get a clearer picture of how efficiently your home is using energy.
