Hawks Rock Distillery Hawk's Rock Distillery is located in the historic Hazelwood Estate, Co. Sligo. You must be of legal drinking age to follow. Drink Responsibly.

Athrú (pronounced Ahh Roo) is an Irish word meaning to change or transform. A progressive brand name, it captures the formative effect of time on a fine single malt as it is transformed from clear raw spirit to rich amber wh***ey. It's also a nod to the transformation that has taken place in the surrounding estate over the centuries and its latest reincarnation as a single malt wh***ey distillery.

Before Google Maps, someone had to walk it.

Between 1761 and 1807, surveyors mapped the Wynne family's lands in Sligo and Leitrim, field by field. The National Library of Ireland still holds their work.

The maps show Hazelwood as it was then: its fields, boundaries, roads and buildings.

Put them beside the estate today, and it becomes a game of spot the difference. Some things are gone, some are new, and some are still exactly where the surveyors drew them.

Good wh***ey doesn't happen by accident.

It starts with the spirit, but maturation is where the character develops.
Time in oak brings depth, flavour and complexity to the liquid.

At Hawk's Rock, we take our time with it.

Handwritten shopping lists still cover the surface, a small record of the people, work, and daily life that once passed through here.

Where the name comes from.

Hawk's Rock is a prominent outcrop in the Ox Mountains, overlooking County Sligo. This striking landmark inspired Yeats' 1917 play 'At the Hawk's Well', and in turn, the name of our distillery.

The name connects what we do to Sligo's landscape, history, and character.
