CCTV in Ireland is in widespread use and there is an increased demand to have access to third-party CCTV systems to tackle a range of offences, including drug-related crimes, vehicle and property crimes, and public-order offences.

Today, An Garda Síochána has launched a public consultation for a draft Code of Practice on third-party live Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) feeds – ie CCTV footage made by a controller who is a third party to An Garda Síochána and which is provided as a monitor feed to An Garda Síochána. The aim of the Code of Practice is to provide further detail on the general operation of third-party live CCTV feeds - and An Garda Síochána is now seeking input on it from members of the public.

A very welcome step forward in strengthening protections for individuals and families affected by domestic, s*xual and gender-based violence.
The passage of this important legislation includes:
✅ Jennie's Law, creating a public register of domestic violence convictions.
✅ Valerie's Law, allowing for the removal or restriction of guardianship rights where a parent has killed the other parent of their child.
✅ The criminalisation of the exploitative practice of "s*x for rent".
✅ Stronger protections around the disclosure of counselling notes in criminal trials.
These measures represent a significant commitment to tackling domestic, s*xual and gender-based violence and supporting victims and survivors. Well done to all involved in bringing this legislation forward.

Minister Jim O'Callaghan TD has secured completion in the Dáil and Seanad of significant reforming legislation that will strengthen protections for women and children as part of the government's efforts to combat domestic, s*xual and gender-based violence.

The new legislation includes Jennie's Law which provides for a public register of judgments for those convicted of domestic violence; Valerie's Law which provides for the removal or restriction of guardianship rights from a parent convicted of killing the other parent of their child; the criminalisation of the exploitative practice of seeking ‘s*x for rent’ and presumed non-disclosure of counselling notes in criminal trials.

The new laws will now go forward to President Connolly to be signed.

🚔 Operation Lifesaver Programme Delivers Powerful Message to Summer Students🚔
Our Roscommon County Council summer students took part in the Garda Operation Lifesaver Programme , delivered by Sgt. Deirdre Coleman and Garda Enda Keane of Roscommon Road Policing Unit in conjunction with the Roscommon Local Community Safety Partnership.
The morning included real-life road safety accounts, drug and alcohol testing demonstrations, and an immersive VR experience that placed students in the front seat of a road traffic collision.
A powerful and thought provoking session that highlighted the importance of making safe choices on our roads. Thank you to all involved for delivering and participating in such an impactful programme.
