Disability Pride Month aligns closely with the principles of the Altitude Charter adopted by LOETB in October 2025, fostering inclusion and learner-centred education. This Disability Pride Month, we continue to proudly honour our commitment to the Altitude Charter, embedding inclusive practices and eliminating barriers across FET provision.

Read more about the importance of Disability Pride Month 2026 in our LOETB blog, linked below. Also discussed are the steps we have taken under the four key pillars of the Altitude Charter, to celebrate disability and implement universal design in education.

Just another busy week in LOETB Inclusion… 💙✨

Over the past few weeks we’ve celebrated learner achievements, welcomed Erasmus visitors, attended national events, and supported fantastic community initiatives across Laois and Offaly.

👏 Congratulations to the employees from the Midlands Park Hotel who received their Certificates of Attendance for English for Hospitality classes, alongside their tutor and Resource Team member Oksana Prozorova.

☀We were delighted to welcome Erasmus tutors Carlos and Rafal from CFPA Jordi de Sant Jordi in Spain, who visited classes and programmes across LOETB.

📚 Thérèse Glennon represented LOETB at the NCSE National Transitions Pilot event in Portlaoise, highlighting the successful collaboration with St. Francis School supporting young people with disabilities transitioning to post-school opportunities and attended by Minister of State at the Department of Education and Youth, with special responsibility for Special Education and Inclusion, Michael Moynihan

💡 The LOETB Inclusion Team were delighted to be part of the “Managing and Keeping Your Money Safe” event as exhibitors and panellists. It was a fantastic morning highlighting financial literacy, online safety, and the valuable supports available within our community.

🎓 Ayoma Bowe represented LOETB at the TUS “Celebrating 25 Years of Access” event in Athlone, speaking about the importance of partnership and learner voice.

🎶 We also enjoyed wonderful community events including the Sing for Joy Choir showcase led by Maureen Culleton and attended by our very own Rose of Tralee Katelyn Cummins and the Music Generation Ukulele Group concert at Esker Arts Centre.

A huge thank you to all our learners, tutors, staff and partners who make inclusion and community learning happen every day. 💙

Well done to Paula Grant, Shauna Busto Gilligan, Nettie Emerson and Sharon Grant from Portlaoise Prison Education Centre, LOETB who presented Reflections of Home through music, poetry and stonecraft: Homecoming Installation Project at the Ahead Altitude Summit today and received a tremendous response.

The Laois Homecoming festival took place over the weekend from the 6th - 9th September 2025 with activities taking place across the county. The Education Unit in Portlaoise Prison was asked if they would like to contribute to the festival, which is how the project was instigated.

This resulted in a collaborative project which took place over an academic year between students of Music, Literacy and Stonecraft in the Education Unit, Portlaoise Prison. Each student explored what the theme “Home” meant to them. Eight pieces including original poetry and music were accompanied by a stone window, made from recycled stone.

The window created by the Stonecraft students is their visual interpretation of the songs composed by the Music Students and poems written by Literacy students. The Stonecraft students selected words that inspired them and carved them onto stone. This installation was exhibited at the Laois Homecoming festival with great success.

🌍 Building Climate Literacy in Adult Education 🌱

We’re delighted to share that some of our adult literacy tutors recently took part in an Eco UNESCO Climate Literacy Workshop as part of a nationally funded project.

This training, held in the LOETB Information Hub, Portlaoise, focused on empowering educators with the knowledge and tools to integrate climate awareness into their teaching.

A big thank you to Eco UNESCO for delivering such an engaging and informative session! Together, we’re helping learners understand the importance of sustainability and climate action.

Climate literacy is key to creating informed communities and supporting positive change for our planet.
