Wexford Public Libraries Children's Book Festival 2026 this October.

Children from schools across the county this morning joined online from their classroom to meet author and illustrator Sheena Dempsey.

Children’s Librarian Theresa introduced Sheena and spoke about Children’s Book Festival 2026, the right to reading and how to join the library.

Sheena shared some fun facts from her childhood, mentioned authors who influenced her, read some chapters, done a quiz and invited everyone to learn how to draw the famous Time Travelling Penguins - Pablo and Splash. 🐧🐧 and answered really good questions.

Thank you to all the classses who attended. Well done on the amazing drawings, absolutely fabulous 🐧🐧⭐

These books and other books by Sheena, are available in all our libraries and on the mobile library.

Pablo and Splash
Pablo and Splash: Frozen in Time
Pablo and Splash: Roman Holiday
Pablo and Splash Viking Voyage

If you like penguins, science, history, you will enjoy this series of Sheena’s books.

🐧Now the question we all what to know is ‘What is Splash’s hat made from?’

We have to read the book to find out! 🐧

A Ghost from the Past: O’Neill, the Emigrant Experience & Intergenerational Memory

Book here:
https://wexfordcoco.libcal.com/event/4583428

Richard Hayes and Kieran Cronin explore Eugene O’Neill’s connections to New Ross, the dramatic life of his father James, and the circumstances surrounding the mysterious death of his grandfather, reflecting on the extent to which O’Neill can be considered an “Irish” playwright, and on the influence of the emigrant experience on his writing.

With this evening’s performance of Long Day’s Journey Into Night in mind, the discussion explores universal questions about human relationships in the context of societal devastation, whether through emigration, poverty, or political and cultural change, considering how the past still shapes the present, and how memory can be a form of entrapment.

Dr Richard Hayes is Vice President for Strategy at South East Technological University.

Kieran Cronin is Special Collections, Heritage & Outreach Librarian at South East Technological University.
