Very best wishes to Superintendent Martina Noonan, who has retired after 35 years in An Garda Síochána, having spent the last 16 years based in the Royal County.

Martina first came to Meath in 2010 as an Inspector and has been here ever since. She was appointed to Trim on promotion to Superintendent in 2020 and she then assumed the role of Superintendent for the Meath North Community Engagement area when the new Garda Operating model was introduced in 2023.

As well as Meath, Martina, who hails from Co. Limerick, served in Dublin and Waterford as well as doing a UN stint in Bosnia.

She was also a huge supporter and influencer of the Leinster branch of An Garda Síochána’s Women’s Network which supports, connects and empowers women within An Garda Síochána.

We wish Martina all the very best in her well deserved retirement!

Your safety, along with the safety of your passengers and other road users, could depend directly on the condition of your vehicle's tyres.

Tyres must:
✅️ Be the right kind and size for your vehicle.
✅️ Be properly inflated.
✅️ Be free from defects.
✅️ Have a tread depth of at least 1.6mm.

Dangers of using sub-standard or incorrect tyres include:
🚫Reduced road handling – you have less control of your vehicle.
🚫 Increased braking distances – it could take up to twice the normal braking distance to stop.
🚫 Aquaplaning – where your tyres lose grip on the road in wet conditions.
🚫 Blow-outs – resulting in loss of control of the vehicle.

By law, it is a driver’s responsibility to make sure that their vehicle meets legal requirements and is in a roadworthy condition at all times. Tyres should be checked to ensure there is a minimum tread depth of 1.6mm. Anything less is illegal for use on a public road.

Tyres also have a tread wear indicator block set into them at a depth of 1.6mm. You should check this block to ensure that this indicator is not at the same level as or lower than the tyre tread.

Generative AI audio tools allow fraudsters to impersonate family members in distress, demanding urgent money transfers.

Using just 3–5 seconds of audio extracted from a public social media video, or voicemail greeting, generative AI tools can clone anyone’s voice with uncanny precision.

Scammers use these voice clones to call parents or grandparents, frantically claiming they’ve been in a car accident, arrested, or kidnapped, and demanding immediate bail or emergency funds.

Establish a "family safe word" today. If you ever receive an emergency call asking for money, ask for the safe word before taking action.

Clicked a suspicious link by mistake? Here are the 3 exact things to do within 60 seconds.

Accidental clicks happen but acting fast stops scammers in their tracks. If you just clicked a link that looks sketchy, don't panic - do these three things immediately:

👉 Turn off your Wi-Fi and switch your phone to Airplane Mode. This cuts off any connection the hacker's website is trying to make with your device.
👉 Clear your browser data. Close all your browser tabs, clear your history, and clear your cookies so the site can't track you anymore.
👉 Change your passwords from a safe device. Log into your email and main accounts from a different phone or computer to update your passwords and call your bank if you typed in any card or account numbers.
