Today’s judgement in Belfast paving the way for the A5 is a huge relief.
This is one of the most important infrastructure and road safety projects on this island and must be commenced as soon as possible.
But, so too must the N2 road schemes in County Monaghan which are integral parts of the same strategic corridor.
The Irish government has rightly committed funding towards the A5. It makes absolutely no sense that at the same time they’ve frustrated and stalled the N2 projects south of the border.
That approach has increased costs, delayed development and caused enormous frustration in communities that have already waited far too long for proper infrastructure, including landowners that have seen land essential sterilised for a number of years.
A completed N2/A5 corridor can be transformative for Monaghan, the wider Border region and the north west. It can open up these regions for investment, jobs and economic development while improving connectivity between Dublin, Monaghan, Tyrone, Derry and Donegal.
Sinn Féin will be working north & south to ensure that our communities finally get the infrastructure we deserve.
