Nature Around the Clock: Supporting Pollinators by Day and Night

15 August, 11:30am - 2:30pm
Limerick Diocesan Centre, St. Munchin's, Corbally, Limerick, V94 925C

Join us for an engaging talk exploring the fascinating world of pollinators that work both by day and by night. Discover how bees, butterflies, hoverflies and other daytime pollinators help our plants and food crops thrive, while moths, bats and other nocturnal wildlife play an equally important but often overlooked role after dark.

We are delighted to welcome two outstanding speakers for this event: Albert Nolan, a leading moth specialist and biodiversity expert, and Jennie Drysdale from Doonbeg Tidy Towns and the Faith Communities Return to Nature Project. Learn simple, practical actions that faith communities, Tidy Towns groups and local communities can take to support pollinators. From creating pollinator-friendly planting schemes to reducing light pollution and providing habitat throughout the year, every action can make a difference. Together, we can help nature thrive around the clock and create healthier, more biodiverse communities for people and wildlife.

Suitable for Tidy Towns groups, faith communities, gardeners, community groups and anyone with an interest in nature, families welcome children must be accompanied by an adult at all times - event is suitable for children aged seven and over.

Our warm weather brings beautiful butterflies out
Speckled Wood, Small Tortoiseshell Butterfly, White plumed Moth, Comma, Red Admiral - all of these butterflies and one moth are on the wing at the moment and may be seen around Limerick. In hedgerows, long flowering meadows in parks, open spaces and gardens and road verges . Hope you manage to spot some of them when you are out and about.

Butterflies and Moths are important pollinators and their caterpillars are an important food source for birds and other wildlife.

Always lovely to come across a Bee Orchid in . This remarkable flower mimics a female bee to attract pollinators. One of nature’s clever tricks. If you’re fortunate to spot one (or any orchid), please just look and leave it for others to enjoy and for pollinators to feed from.
