Today is an historic moment as the leaders of Sinn Féin, the SNP and Plaid Cymru come together to stand up for the interests of our nations and their right to independence.

For the first time in history, three nationalist and pro-independence First Ministers now hold office.

Today is a powerful testament to the enormous change, hope and opportunity of the times we are living through.

Putting workers and families first has to be at the centre of the new Dáil term and the Budget.

Sinn Fein will bring solutions including:
👉 Abolishing the USC for every worker on the first €40,000 you earn
👉 Scrapping the carbon tax on home heating oil
👉 Double child benefit for all children and additional support for those who need it most
👉 Energy credit of €400

Politics is about choices and Sinn Fein will always put workers and families first.

A powerful piece of Irish history comes to An Grianán Theatre this Saturday.

“We Have Him Back” tells the true story of Frank Stagg and preserves an important piece of Irish republican history through theatre.

There are only a limited number of tickets remaining for the performance at 8pm on Saturday 5th September.

If you’re interested in local history, Irish history or theatre, this is well worth supporting.

Tickets should only be purchased through the official An Grianán Theatre website. - https://angrianan.com/event/we-have-him-back/

Today we welcome the launch of the new Coastal Location Code pilot at Narin Beach.

The initiative was brought forward by Cllr Brian Carr following the traumatic experience involving his family at Tramore Beach last year, which highlighted how difficult it can be to quickly identify an exact location in an emergency.

The new system will give beaches and coastal access points a unique code that can be given to emergency services, helping them locate people more quickly when every second counts.

We commend Brian for bringing this idea forward and Donegal County Council and the Irish Coast Guard for helping to make it a reality.

We hope this pilot is a success and that the system can be rolled out across Donegal and beyond.

Online shoppers are facing yet another charge, with a new €2 handling fee set to come on top of the €3 charge already introduced on small parcels from outside the EU.

Deputy Pearse Doherty says the approach is putting the burden on ordinary shoppers and postal services, while letting online giants off the hook.

For many purchases, these charges can also trigger additional An Post administration fees — meaning the cost of a low-value item can quickly add up.

Sinn Féin is calling on the Government to push for these charges to be suspended and for online corporations to be held responsible at source, rather than continually passing the cost onto households.

“Nationalists really were discriminated against and trodden on, we were penned in like animals with three or four families to one house, when you think where we are today. And that was only 50 years ago.”

Only 5 additional GPs have been employed in Donegal since 2020, despite significant population growth across the county.

Cllr Dakota Nic Mheanman says the figures show GP services simply have not kept pace, with practices full, waiting lists closed and families travelling long distances just to access basic healthcare.

Across the state, 5,775 people have already had to contact the HSE this year for help finding a GP.

People in Donegal deserve access to a family doctor when they need one. Sinn Féin is calling for urgent investment to recruit and retain more GPs, particularly in rural communities.

No one should face harassment or intimidation simply for serving their community.

We stand in solidarity with our comrade Cllr Dakota Nic Mheanman, who has spoken out after being targeted as part of what appears to be a coordinated campaign of harassment against female elected representatives.

Dakota has shown great courage in speaking publicly about her experience. By doing so, she has helped shine a light on an issue affecting women in public life across Ireland.

Politics must be a place where women can serve their communities free from abuse, intimidation and fear.

We commend Dakota for speaking out and thank An Garda Síochána and the AILG Women’s Caucus for their support.
