The quarterly meeting of the Donegal Tourism Associates Committee together with the Donegal Tourism Board was held yesterday on Station Island, Lough Derg. Thanks to Cillian and his team for their hospitality. Between the meetings, attendees were afforded a tour of this historic facility, which has welcomed pilgrims from across Ireland and beyond for generations.

As one of the country's most unique spiritual and heritage destinations, Lough Derg continues to play an important role in preserving Ireland's cultural traditions while contributing significantly to the region's tourism offering. The visit provided an opportunity to gain a greater appreciation of the island's rich history, ongoing development, and its importance to the local economy and visitor experience.

Donegal was delighted to welcome EXPLORA III, part of the luxury Explora Journeys fleet, to Greencastle during its recent visit to County Donegal.

To mark the occasion, Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Cllr Gary Doherty, together with Chief Executive John G. McLaughlin and Leas-Cathaoirleach Cllr Terry Crossan, boarded the ship to meet the Captain and crew and present a specially selected Donegal gift as a memento of their visit.

The arrival of EXPLORA III highlights the growing potential of Greencastle and County Donegal as a cruise tourism destination, providing an important opportunity to showcase our spectacular landscapes, rich heritage, culture and warm Donegal welcome to international visitors.

We hope that passengers and crew enjoyed their time in Donegal and that we have the opportunity to welcome EXPLORA Journeys back to our shores again in the future.

Donegal Tourism CLG and Donegal County Council were delighted to attend the Shared Island workshop at the Everglades Hotel in Derry on 9th September.

The first-ever Shared Island Tourism Brand cross-border collaborative event was hosted by Tourism Ireland, Tourism Northern Ireland and Fáilte Ireland, brought together the best of our regional tourism sector—and Donegal was out in full force and we would like to acknowledge and thank these agencies for organising this event.

Thanks also to Derry City & Strabane District Council and Visit Derry for their work in organising the event also and for their ongoing collaboration and partnership.

Having so many of our local industry partners in the room made for an electric, highly productive day of networking. With over 100 tour operators and buyers present, the energy around what the North West has to offer international visitors was unmistakable.

Key takeaways from the event:

* Real regional momentum: Cross-border connectivity isn’t just a concept—it’s how visitors experience our landscapes, heritage, and hospitality on the ground.
* Direct commercial impact: Meaningful, face-to-face engagements that will directly influence itineraries and drive bed nights across Donegal in the seasons ahead.
* Industry unity: A brilliant showcase of collaboration between accommodation providers, activity operators, cultural attractions, and regional bodies.

A huge thank you to Tourism Ireland, to Fáilte Ireland and Tourism Northern Ireland for spearheading this initiative and to every Donegal business and those from the wider North West region that showed up to champion our counties.

The future of tourism in the North West is shared, connected, and looking very bright.
