In Memory of John Linehan

We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our former colleague, John Linehan.

John was a master craftsman and carpenter, whose skill, creativity and willingness to help left a lasting mark on our town. Through the CE Scheme, John was involved in numerous projects that helped enrich and enhance the community.

Among those projects was his work with K-FEST, where John built the iconic K-FEST letters that stood proudly in the town for a decade. It was just one example of the many ways his talent and hard work contributed to the character and spirit of the community.

But beyond his craftsmanship, John will be remembered as a true gentleman, pleasant, obliging, good-natured and always willing to have a go at something new. He was someone who could be relied upon, and his quiet contribution to the town will not be forgotten.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to John’s wife Mary, family, friends and all who knew him.

Rest in peace, John.

Can you imagine… this weekend, 25 years ago, OUR King Puck Sculpture was unveiled by the small and dedicated Killorglin Millennium Committee.

From start to finish, it took just 46 days to create something that would become so much more than a sculpture.

It was built by a town.

By the vision and skill of Alan Ryan Hall, who designed and created the sculpture. By the generosity of Angela & Ger Kelliher, who donated the land. And by the townspeople, volunteers, donors and countless others who gave their time, energy, money and hard work to make it happen.

That’s the thing about Killorglin. When something matters to us, we come together and we make it happen.

And over the past 25 years, King Puck has become part of the fabric of our town.

He has stood there as generations of people have come home (from near and far) and he has stood there for final goodbyes, marking the journeys of those who left us and those who carried their memories with them.

For people who grew up here, he is familiar.
For those who left, he is a reminder of home.
And for those returning, perhaps after years away, there is something powerful about seeing him again.

Because home is more than a place.

It is the people, the stories, the landscape, the traditions and the memories that connect us to where we come from. It is something we carry with us, wherever life takes us.

And that is perhaps what makes our King Puck Sculpture so special.

He doesn’t just stand at the entrance to Killorglin. He welcomes us home.

Twenty-five years on, he is still there, a symbol of our town, our heritage and our extraordinary ability to come together and create something that belongs to all of us.

So this weekend, let’s celebrate OUR King Puck.

And perhaps, wherever in the world you might be, take a moment to remember Killorglin. Home.

25 years. Still standing. Still welcoming us home. ❤️💚 Hup the Puck!
