Did you know you may have been carrying a little piece of Killarney in your pocket all those years?

The iconic image of Lady Lavery as Kathleen Ní Houlihan, the symbolic representation of Ireland, appeared on Irish banknotes for almost 50 years - with the Lakes of Killarney and surrounding mountains providing the backdrop.

Killarney’s landscape has been woven into Ireland’s story for generations, and this is just one beautiful example.

Do you remember these notes or know someone who still has one tucked away?

A landmark that’s impossible to miss, St. Mary’s Cathedral has been part of Killarney’s skyline for over 170 years.

Designed by renowned architect Augustus Pugin, its striking Gothic Revival architecture and soaring spire have made it one of Killarney’s most recognisable landmarks for generations.

Just a short stroll from Killarney National Park, it’s the perfect place to pause, admire the craftsmanship, and take in one of the town’s most iconic views.
