Come and discover the magic of Muckross - incorporating Muckross House & Gardens, Muckross Traditional Farms, Muckross Craft Centre and the Walled Garden Restaurant. Today much remains the same in this magnificent Victorian Mansion, one of Ireland's leading stately homes. Muckross House is beautifully situated amidst the spectacular scenery of Killarney National Park. The elegantly furnished rooms portray the lifestyles of the landed gentry, while downstairs in the basement, one can experience the working conditions of the servants employed in the house. Experience Tradition - the Traditional Farms is an exciting representation of the lifestyles and farming traditions of a rural community in the 1930s. Take a stroll down memory lane to a time before the advent of electricity, when all work was carried out using traditional methods. Three separate working farms, complete with animals, poultry and traditional farm machinery will help you re-live the past. Muckross Craft Centre, adjacent to Muckross House is home to a number of skilled craft workers who can be viewed using traditional skills in the crafts of weaving, bookbinding and pottery. A fascinating evening at Muckross House last Friday as conservator Siobhan Conyngham presented ‘From the Walls of Muckross’.

The evening offered a behind-the-scenes look at selected artworks from the Muckross House collection, along with an insight into the careful conservation work undertaken to preserve these important pieces for future generations.

A wonderful opportunity to look a little closer at the artworks that line the walls of Muckross and discover more about the expertise and care that goes into protecting our collection.

Thank you to Siobhan and to everyone who joined us for the evening.

🎨 We’re very proud to celebrate the talents of one of our own here at Muckross House!

Sharon Lavery, who works in our Bookbindery, is also a keen and talented artist. This summer, her beautiful painting, “Ladies’ View, Killarney”, was exhibited at Killarney House as part of the Natural Kerry exhibition by Tralee Art Group.

A wonderful achievement for Sharon and a beautiful celebration of the Kerry landscape that inspires so many artists. Congratulations from all of us at Muckross! 👏

We were delighted to present a cheque for €1,000 to the Kerry Hospice Foundation, following funds raised through our recent All-Ireland tickets draw.

The Trustees of Muckross House kindly topped up the amount raised to bring the final donation to €1,000.

A sincere thank you to everyone who supported the draw and helped contribute to such an important local cause.

Earlier this summer, Muckross House Research Library carefully removed the portrait of Jane, Countess of Bantry, from the Main Landing as part of its ongoing Collections Care and conservation work.

The painting required specialist attention due to areas of flaking paint and surface dirt, and was entrusted to conservator Siobhan Cunningham for treatment. Following this careful work, the portrait is now stable, refreshed, and back in its place overlooking the Main Landing once again.

Projects like this form an important part of the Library’s work in caring for, preserving and interpreting the Muckross House collection for future generations.
