Kilkenny RPU benefitted from the assistance of the ASU for three high visibility checkpoints today in and around Kilkenny. The aim of the operation was to target and frustrate the movement of criminals and detect Road Traffic Offences.
Two arrests were made, the first was of a man who was subject to a Deportation Order and was transported immediately into custody. The second was a driver who was clearly under the influence of an intoxicant and failed a Roadside Oral Fluid Test.
Other less serious offences were detected and an Audi Q3 was seized having an NCT expired over a year and an unaccompanied learner at the wheel.

In any language, we all know what a red light means. Unfortunately 10 motorists in Kilkenny detected breaking lights in Kilkenny in a period over 24 hours got a refresher. Breaking red lights endangers you and other road users.
One driver intercepted earlier in Irishtown was also a disqualified driver and now faces a court appearance as well as the mandatory 80 Euro fine and 3 Penalty Points.

Puppy Rescue

This poor little Yaris was seized this morning by our Regular Unit. The owner didn't love it enough to insure it. Hopefully, its future custodians will give it the home it deserves.
Just 10 minutes later, our RPU members picked up a Kia that did not exCEED expectations with the owner likewise uninsured.

Not much of a tale but these two bikes were recovered today, one in Kilkenny, the other in Callan. The one pictured in front of the RPU patrol car is suspected to have been taken without permission, while there nay be a totally innocent explanation for the Callan pushbike. Beware of Stags in Kilkenny

Stag Parties have always had the potential to cause havoc when celebrations exceed common sense but it's another kind of stag we're talking about today.
Rutting season is at its peak in October so the big danger at the moment is the amorous Stag who with great exuberance is likely to bolt across a night time road in front of you. Be especially careful on roads that pass near woodlands as the deer might pass in front of you without warning.
Please keep speeds down and drive within the limit of your vision and ability to deal with a hazard.

Possibly a poor choice of route....

Most of us use navigation including Google maps, Waze and even old fashioned Sat Nav to assist us in route planning. This can help avoid congestion, road works and roads unsuitable for your vehicle.
There however is no route suited to someone who is driving intoxicated.
Last Friday night, while conducting a Mandatory Intoxicant Checkpoint outside the Station our RPU crew met one individual who planned his route home with his friend, past the GardaStation. He ended up falling foul to a breath test and came back nearly four times over the limit when an evidential breath sample was provided post arrest.
He was lucky though, very lucky. He was about to drive another 10kms with his buddy and might have killed himself, his passenger, another driver, a pedestrian. Who knows. He is charged to court and if convicted will have plenty of time to plan routes, this time as a passenger.
