✂️ Volunteer Spotlight: Introducing Ahmad! 💙

We are delighted to introduce Ahmad, a full-time barber who recently reached out to Meath Volunteer Centre with a wonderful desire to give back to his community.

Through Meath Volunteer Centre, Ahmad has been matched with the Joshua Homeless Drop-In, where he will be volunteering his time and skills to provide Free haircuts for service users once a month.

Ahmad’s generosity is a fantastic example of how sharing your skills and giving a little of your time can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life. A haircut is about more than just looking good — it can help boost confidence, promote wellbeing, and give someone a little extra time to feel good about themselves. 💈

A huge thank you to Ahmad for his kindness and commitment, and to Joshua's Homeless Drop-In for providing this opportunity to support people in our community.

👏 Do you have a skill you could share or some time to give? Get in touch with Meath Volunteer Centre to find out how you can make a difference!

Fantastic community spirit in Ashbourne over the past few weeks! Huge well done to all the wonderful volunteers who took part in creating this vibrant walkway mural.

It has been a pleasure to partner with so many different community groups in Ashbourne on this initiative, showcasing what we can achieve when we all come together. Projects like this don't just brighten up our local walkways, they bring people closer and champion fantastic causes in our local communities.

As National Volunteering Week 2026 comes to a close, we want to give a huge thank you to the amazing volunteers who gave their time and energy at the Meath Community Games event over the weekend. 👏

From helping things run smoothly behind the scenes to supporting participants, families and organisers throughout the day, your contribution made a real difference to the success of the event and to the spirit of community it represents.

Volunteers are at the heart of communities across Meath, and this weekend was another brilliant example of people coming together to support one another, create opportunities, and make positive memories for young people and families.

Thank you for everything you do — not just this week, but all year round. 💙

National Volunteering Week

National Volunteering Week is a weeklong celebration of volunteering every year. Join us for 2026's festivities 18-24th May!

National Volunteering Week is a weeklong celebration of volunteering. Along with the network of Volunteer Centres, Volunteer Ireland uses National Volunteering Week to amplify the incredible stories of volunteering in our communities through social and traditional media. It’s a week full of events, both online and in person, with everything from yoga to coffee mornings to seminars on offer.

National Volunteering Week 2026 centres on the theme “From Every Corner, For Every Cause” which celebrates all the different types of volunteers and volunteering that make up our communities.

Across Ireland, in every parish, town and city, volunteers are strengthening communities in meaningful ways. They support older people to live independently, mentor young people to reach their potential, protect our environment, sustain local arts and culture, and respond in times of crisis. Every minute given builds stronger services, deeper connections, and more resilient communities.

This year we also look beyond our shores. As we mark International Volunteer Year, we recognise that the impact of volunteering in Ireland is part of a much bigger global movement. Around the world, volunteers are tackling poverty and inequality, responding to humanitarian emergencies, advancing education and health, and championing climate action. Volunteers from Ireland aren’t just making Ireland a stronger community, they’re changing the world.

“From Every Corner, For Every Cause” celebrates the extraordinary collective power of volunteering — local and global — and honours the people whose time, compassion and commitment make a measurable difference every single day. The impact of volunteering has huge ripples. Every action, no matter how small, has an impact and helps to inspire and connect volunteers across the world.

CASE STUDY | Navan Tidy Towns

The Power of Volunteering in Our Community

Since our re-establishment, volunteering has become the heart of everything we do at Navan Tidy Towns. Our volunteers give their time, energy, and ideas to help improve our town, create a stronger sense of community, and make Navan a cleaner and more welcoming place for everyone.

The impact volunteers have within our group is enormous. From planting and clean-up projects to community events and environmental initiatives, none of what we achieve would be possible without the dedication of local volunteers.

Meath Volunteer Centre has played a huge role in supporting our organisation and helping us grow our volunteer numbers significantly since our re-establishment. The Centre has made it easier for people to get involved in their community and that support has been invaluable.

In fact, I personally would not be Chairman today if I had not first discovered Navan Tidy Towns through Meath Volunteer Centre. Volunteering gave me the opportunity to meet like-minded people, become part of something positive, and make a meaningful difference in the community.

We are extremely grateful for the continued support of Meath Volunteer Centre and for every volunteer who gives their time to help make Navan a better place for everyone.
