Trees on the Land - an excellent opportunity for to all communities and landowners: farmers, smallholders, community groups, schools, colleges, sports clubs, golf clubs, youth groups, healthcare and hospital grounds, councils, church and faith communities, gardeners and many others.

This scheme offers trees free of charge to schools and colleges, farmers and smallholders, and community projects. It is suitable for establishing small woodland areas, hedgerows, shelter belts, coppice, orchards, agroforestry, parkland and all sorts of other tree cover.

Applications are accepted on a first come first served basis. They have limited numbers of trees and applications will be closed early if all trees are accounted for before the deadline. Please do not leave your application to the last minute - apply promptly to avoid disappointment.

Application Deadline: Applications for trees will close at 5pm on Sunday 18th October 2026.

For tree planting guidelines and information about hedgerows, visit https://biodiversity.galwaycommunityheritage.org/content/places/galwaynature/woodlands-hedgerows-and-trees

Great to see another gang of Irish Whale and Dolphin Group volunteers completing specialist Mud Safety training in Belmullet, Co. Mayo.

Galway's coastline is home to a remarkable variety of marine wildlife, including whales, dolphins and porpoises. The IWDG's trained volunteer network plays an important role in responding to reports of live-stranded cetaceans, helping to ensure that animals are assessed safely and that the welfare of both wildlife and responders remains the priority.

Galway County Council was pleased to support this training programme through the National Parks and Wildlife Service Local Action Biodiversity Fund 2026. By building the skills and capacity of volunteers, the programme helps strengthen the response network that serves coastal communities around Galway and across Ireland.

This training delivers on actions set out in the Galway County Heritage and Biodiversity Plan 2024 - 2030. (BD3.6)
