⏰There are just over two weeks left to apply for the ‘Transition Year/Youth Work Placement’ and the ‘Your Gallery at School and in Your Community’ programmes. Applications close at 11.59pm on Friday 23 October.

🔵 The ‘Transition Year/Youth Work Placement’ programme is an exciting opportunity for students to experience working life at one of Ireland’s top cultural institutions and explore a range of careers across the arts sector. https://www.nationalgallery.ie/explore-and-learn/schools/your-gallery-school-and-your-community-202627

🔴 The ‘Your Gallery at School and in Your our Community’ programme brings the national collection into classrooms and community settings across Ireland through co-created artist-led projects. https://www.nationalgallery.ie/explore-and-learn/schools/your-gallery-school-and-your-community-202627

🎞In June 2026, Scoil Naomh Erc, Glenderry NS in Co. Kerry participated in the programme, and learnt how they could engage with the landscape they’re surrounded by through art. Watch the video below to learn more about how much the participants enjoyed their unique experience! https://www.nationalgallery.ie/explore-and-learn/schools/transition-year-youth-work-experience-placements-202627

🤝The Gallery works in partnership with SMBC Aviation Capital to allow the schools programme to extend access to high-quality arts education through four initiatives: ‘Your Gallery at School and in your Community’, ‘My Primary School is at the Gallery’ and ‘Transition Year Placements’. Together, these programmes will help bring the national collection to more classrooms across the country, and create new opportunities for young people to explore creativity and culture.

This is one of three paintings in our collection by the French artist Pierre Bonnard, who was born 159 years ago this weekend.

🍴This lunch scene is set in his country house at Vernonnet in the Seine valley. The woman in red is Marthe de Méligny, Bonnard’s muse, model, and future wife – her distinctive red blouse features in a number of paintings he painted around the same time. The man is thought to be Bonnard himself. Their relaxed poses along with casual table setting and crumpled napkin give a sense of warmth and intimacy.

🧐 See it in Room 2 the next time you visit us, alongside two other paintings by Bonnard. Admission to our permanent collection is always free.

Tá an saothar seo ar cheann de thrí phictiúr inár mbailiúchán leis an ealaíontóir Francach Pierre Bonnard, a rugadh 159 bliain ó shin an deireadh seachtaine seo.

🍴 Feictear radharc lóin ina theach tuaithe i Vernonnet, i ngleann na Séine. Is í Marthe de Méligny– bé, mainicín agus beanchéile Bonnard ina dhiadih sin – atá ag caitheamh an blús dearg, rud a fheictear i bpictiúr eile a phéinteáil sé i rith an tréimhse céanna. Ceaptar gurb é Bonnard féin an fear sa phictiúr. Cruthaíonn a staidiúir shuaimhneach, mar aon leis an socrú boird neamhfhoirmiúil agus an naipcín rocach, atmaisféar teolaí agus pearsanta.

🧐Is féidir an pictiúr a fheiceáil i Seomra 2, taobh le dhá phictiúr eile le Bonnard, an chéad uair eile a thabharfaidh tú cuairt orainn. Bíonn cead isteach chuig ár mbailiúchán buan saor in aisce i gcónaí.

🪷Two weeks until Hilma af Klint: Artist and Visionary opens here.

As well as featuring a selection of af Klint’s abstract, spiritual paintings - known as the ‘great work’ - the exhibition will also include beautiful examples of her landscapes, early portraits and plant studies, like these delicate watercolour and ink drawings.

The broad range of works which make up the exhibition will convey a sense of the time, place, and circumstances that led Hilma af Klint to become the unique artist she was.
